The existing pipe supports will be able to withstand the Test and Erection load where applicable. Load combination is as shown in Appendix A. 1.4 Materials Structural Steel Structural Section Bolts Grade 43A (fy = 275N/mm2) HT Bolts Gr 8-8 to BS 4190 Minimum Requirements for Structural Design And Engineering Reinforced Concrete Foundation And Structures Steel Structure

b)
Horizontal Deflection Total horizontal displacement shall not exceed 1/150 of the height for cantilever pipe support. 1.7 Structural Natural Frequency To minimize the dynamic amplification factor as well as to avoid resonance the structural natural frequency must not within the range of 7.5 Hz to 22.5 Hz (i.e. 50% below or above 15 Hz).

DESIGN LOADING INFORMATION 3.1 Piping Load All pipe loadings given as shown in Appendix B. The loading given is taken as static operation load applied at the respective direction. An additional harmonic dynamic load of 5 kN amplitude with frequency of 15 Hz to be applied at relevant direction. There is no live load applicable for this pipe support. The loading given is the most critical load applicable to the pipes including pipe selfweight (dead load). 3.2 Wind Load The basic design wind speed is 30.6 m/s. The detailed design calculation is as shown in Appendix C. 3.3 Seismic Factors from Uniform Building Code (UBC) for horizontal loading: i) ii)
iii)
The seismic loading is generated by StaadPro using the above design data.
3.4
Thermal Friction Load (Due to Pipe Expansion) The thermal friction force is taken as 15% of the total operating load to the local supporting beams.
3.5
Temperature Load (Due to Steel Structure Expansion) For cantilever single frame structure the temperature load is insignificant, therefore not taken into consideration.
3.6
Load Combination And Load Factors The design load combination and load factors are shown in Appendix A. Serviceability check shall be based on load combinations without load factor. Ultimate limit design for steel structure and reinforce concrete shall be based on load combinations with load factors.

STRUCTURE DESIGN CONCEPT The structure is designed as steel structure on RC pad footing. The bearing capacity for pad footing is taken as 90N/m2. (Refer to Design Calculation for Pipe Supports and Miscellaneous Steel Structures, Doc No.: BTU.2.10.7298). All the steel structure connection is by welding as shown in drawings.

STRUCTURE ANALYSIS MODEL Two numbers of 3-D model are created using StaadPro V8i for the purpose of analysis and design of the new structure. One model is for the dynamic analysis of the steel structures for Node 240 to design and calculate the natural frequency of the steel structure. One model is for the static analysis of the steel structures for Node 240 for steel member design check.
