Report by Rtr. Deman Sinha On Thursday 12th August, early morning 02:00 AM we boarded Coimbatore Express. We reached Coimbatore on 13th morning 07:00 AM. We had a grand welcome by RC of GRD along with Dist. IDYE chairman. We had breakfast at Peoples Park with them. After taking a bath at one of the club members house we visited their college (GRD College of Science). We met all the members of their club and the principal of their college. We had a general meeting with the club members in presence of their staff co-ordinator and exchanged our letterheads. After this, President of the club showed us the whereabouts of the campus. We had delicious lunch at Rain Forest Restaurant. Then we went to Silent Valley for site-seeing. After enjoying a lot there, they dropped us at Murugan International, where RC of Coimbatore Sparks was already there to welcome us. They welcomed us with warm greetings. Although we were very tired their welcome itself was refreshing. After meeting the club members we went for dinner to Metro Park Inn. There we had a buffet dinner. Later the district DRR & Secretary also joined us. It was nice chatting with them. After that we returned to the hotel & watched a movie with the club members. We slept around 03:00 AM. The next morning, we went for breakfast. The members of RC Symphony received us at hotel. At the meeting venue, we interacted with their members. After that we went to Kotagiri with all the club members. District event was organised there, due to which many other clubs too were present there. We interacted with them also. We had lunch with many clubs along with district cabinet members present there for the event. We had site-seeing of whole Kotagiri with RC KCT members. The scenic surrounding of Kotagiri was overwhelming, and though the climate there was cold we were still standing tall without any harm. Then we saw the famous tea gardens of Kotagiri where we had sample tea to drink. The tea drove the cold out of our body. After that we attended District event followed by dinner. We returned to the cottage booked for us and directly went to sleep. Next day morning we attended the closing ceremony of the event & returned back to Coimbatore by 9 PM with the members of RC Symphony. We then had a typical south Indian dinner with members of RC of Symphony & KCT together. Then we went to the house of one of the Symphonys member for sleepover. Next day in the morning he dropped us to Coimbatore Railway station where we boarded LTT express & returned back to Pune at 11:00 in the morning. It was really a nice experience being a part of IDYE. My days with Rotaract! This topic came across as a real delight for me because it reminds me of the actual fun with Ive had in Rotaract. For me Rotaract is not just a group; but rather like my family in Pune. Rotaract, for me, corresponds to Lots of friends, knowledge and lots of contacts. Life with Rotaract has never been boring, and I will say that joining the Rotaract club was the most happening and best thing in my college life. My Rotaract journey started two and half years ago like an accident, and after experiencing the actual world of professionalism through friendship I will say its more like practical MBA course. In the last 2 years, I visited so many places across all over India in the program called IDYE i.e. inter district youth exchange. In this program the rotaractors from one place are sent to other places to get new experiences and also to exchange their views, experiences and cultures etc. The most memorable IDYE for me was in December of last year to Kolkata where I visited so many places in north east India and which was also extended to hill stations in Nagaland. It was the best trip for me till date. And the most exciting thing is that the friends I made there are still in touch with me like age-old friends. Rotaract organizes lots of events all over India which include RYLAs (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), MDFM (Multi District Fellowship Meet), Rotasia etc. I always tried my best to attend those as it gave me a chance to explore my world. And I specially want to mention that last years Rotasia (Rotaract-Asia Conference) was great fun. The amazing event included three continuous sleepless nights and four days of interaction of rotaractors from all over Asia. I am very glad to say that this years Rotasia is hosted by our district and will be held in GOA. In this month, we went to Rajmachi for trekking. For the first time in my life I walked for about 50kms in just 2 days. I am really short of words to describe this trek but to be frank with you guys those were two heavenly days spent in the vicinity of nature and 120 rotaractors. I still remember the night in the village of Rajmachi - that masti, the BESURE singers and then the creepy ghost stories and more will be added by Madhura in her article. I think these are memorable experiences which are very difficult to describe in the form of an article. Id rather arrange one session in which I will share my experiences about the most funny and educational days of my life my days with Rotaract. So stay tuned for more

RAJMACHI
Located in the heart of the Sahyadris, adorned by picturesque waterfalls, and breath-taking views, lies the winding way to the Rajmachi fort. Situated at a distance of 20-22 kms from Lonavla station, the trek is an easy but long long walk to the fort. Rajmachi has two citadels Shrivardhan and Manoranjan. The Tungarli Lake and dam, the Bhairavnath temple and the fort top are the major spots to be visited. The 14th of August 10 dawned with high spirits among the Rotaractors of DYPCOE. The 6.45 am local from Akurdi station, took us to Lonavla, which was the uniting point of different clubs of the district. The interaction started right here, with the new members being introduced as breakfast was served. By 10.30 we started our journey on foot. To cover a distance of 20 km on foot seemed close to impossible for most of us. But our experienced rotaractors Harshada, Geeta and Amol, kept encouraging everyone. People sang songs and cheered along the way. We crossed over to the other side of the express highway and the ascent started. The houses along the way kept getting sparse and slowly disappeared. The first spot to catch our attention was the Tungarli dam. Minuscule streams trickled down from the dam to form waterfalls. The cold water was very refreshing in the highly humid atmosphere. We walked on to cross the village of Tungarli. After that, there was no sign of human settlement for a very long distance. Climbing up and down the Sahyadri slopes, we crossed a lot of waterfalls. The temptation to linger was strong, but the urge to reach our destination was stronger. I was strongly reminded of Robert Frosts famous lines The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. By mid-afternoon, there was a considerable droop in our energies. Lunch time! It was a scenic spot with a wide stream, surrounded by a stretch of grass on one side and a deep valley with a gushing waterfall on the other. Most of us settled down on the huge stones amid the stream while a wooden bridge on the stream suited some others. A traditional maharashtrian menu bhakri, pithla, thecha and pickle was served. It was very amusing to watch our pizza-burger generation gulping down this food happily. Even the simplest of food can be the tastiest, provided youre hungry After lunch, we started with renewed zest. It kept raining frequently. The forest cover grew thick as we descended the valleys and opened up as we climbed up. The little chai tapris on the way were a huge solace for our parched throats. At some places, the path was damaged due to the rain and we got ourselves stuck in the muck. It taught us to use the diversions through the forests whenever such paths appeared again.

I had one of the most unusual experiences of my life that day. We were at a peak of a mountain engulfed by a cloud. And incredible as it sounds, we actually walked through the cloud to the other side. It appeared like very dense fog and there was a slight difficulty in breathing. Our vision was restricted to a mere few feet. The lines badal pe paon hai came true for all of us that day. By around 3.30-4 pm, we crossed the river and started our final ascent to the village. Leaden legs protested but it was plain determination that edged us on. At 5pm, we reached the little village at the base of Rajmachi fort. Within minutes everyone freshened up. We had the whole evening before us, to enjoy and interact. Despite the fatigue and exhaustion, everybody gathered out in the verandah, and started on the endless ride of enjoyment of singing, chatting and cracking jokes. A small fire was lit, and our bunch sat around it. The evening was punctuated with breakfast and a very tasty dinner. Finally, as exhaustion took over, all the rotaractors decided on taking a good nights sleep. The next morning, was an early one for us, as we all got ready and attended the Independence Day function at the local school. Little school kids singing patriotic songs brought back our childhood memories and made us nostalgic. After the small function, it was time to get to the fort. The climb was enjoyable. We crossed an ancient Bhairavnath temple on the way. At some places the path was narrow and steep, but the final result was fulfilling. The wide view from the top of the fort gave us a flattering realization of the distance we had traversed. On our way back, we came across a tree full of monkeys. It was an amusing sight indeed. We arrived back to the village to satiate our hunger and finally bid farewell to the villagers. The returning path was the same and there were yet a few rotaractors who had enough of energy to sing on their way back. The last few kilometres were incredibly difficult due to fatigue and every step was taxing. Yet somehow, all of us managed to make it to the Lonavla station. The different clubs dispersed on their respective routes from here. We returned back to Akurdi station, with a satisfied heart, aching legs, an incredible experience to our credit and lots and lots of happy memories. -Rtr. Madhura Nakate
