differentiation with applications. Important Quadric Surfaces are included after making the students familiar with 3- Dimensional Cylindrical and Spherical Coordinate Systems. Double and triple integration are included with applications to find areas and volumes. In the second part advanced topics in vector analysis like calculus of del operator, gradient, curl and divergence along with their physical interpretations are covered. Outcomes: After completing this course, students will be able to: 1. Solve problems involving partial differentiation and functions of several variable 2. Study Partial Differential Equations. 3. Study Heat Equation, Wave Equation and other related PDEs 4. Tackle the Engineering Problems involving Curl, Gradient and Divergence. Course Contents: Multivariable functions and partial derivatives Three Dimensional Cylindrical & Spherical Coordinate Systems. Introduction to functions of several variables. Basic Quadric Surfaces. Partial Differentiation. Chain Rules. Geometric Interpretation of Partial Derivatives. Absolute, relative and percentage changes using Differentials. Predicating change with differentials and sensitivity to change. Tangent plane s and normal lines to a surfaces Taylors Theorem

of 2 variables. Maxima & Minima of functions of two variables. Extreme values and saddle point. Multiple Integrals Double integrals, areas by double integration using Cartesian as well as Polar coordinates. Volumes in rectangular coordinates using Triple integrals. Volumes in cylindrical and spherical coordinates using Triple integrals. Surface areas using double integrals. Vector Calculus Scalar & Vector fields, Gradient of a scalar function and its physical and geometrical significance. Divergence of a vector field & its significance, curl of a vector field & its significance. Calculus of del operator, Irrotational & Solenoidal Vector Fields and their scalar & vector potentials. Line, surface and volume integrals. Divergence Theorem, Stokes Theorem and Greens Theorem and their applications.
