SIMPLIFIED DEVICE INTEGRATION ON A SINGLE PLATFORM

INTEGRATED ARCHITECTURE AND FDT TECHNOLOGY

FDT HELPS DELIVER

FROM DEVICE LEVEL TO INFORMATION MANAGEMENT LEVEL
Our Integrated Architecture system and Field Device Tool (FDT) technology combine to easily integrate your measurement instrumentation and automation controls on a single platform, with standard tools. Whether youre a manufacturer, machine builder or system integrator working with process or hybrid applications, youll find that a single, unified environment gives you the opportunity to develop, and maintain a genuine competitive edge. The Integrated Architecture of Rockwell Automation helps companies throughout the world reduce costs and time to market while improving productivity and quality. Thats because, offering the many benefits of a single, plant-wide control and information solution, it delivers unparalleled levels of flexibility, scaleability and functionality. Through the use of

FULL DEVICE FUNCTIONALITY ACROSS YOUR ENTIRE AUTOMATION ARCHITECTURE

smart instrumentation, which bridges the traditional separation between field devices and automation systems, we are bringing seamless integration to the industrial process engineering sector, from configuration, through production management to maintenance.

STANDARDISATION THE KEY TO EASY INTEGRATION

For some years, there has been a clear need for open, non-proprietary systems which empower the industry to select best-of-breed solutions for any specific application. By leveraging the open and ultra-flexible FDT/DTM interface specifications, we are delivering more convenient, standards-compliant methods for configuring, operating and maintaining a wide range of process instruments and factory automation equipment.

INTEGRATED ARCHITECTURE AND FDT: WORLD CLASS SOLUTIONS FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW
Based on Field Device Tool technology, Rockwell Automation delivers world-class solutions for the configuration, diagnosis and integration of a wide range of process devices into our Logix control platform within Integrated Architecture. It enables specialised user interfaces supplied by the device vendor to be used for advanced diagnostics and performance analysis, helping users to improve uptime and maintain staff productivity. FDT works using standard technology such as HART, Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus PA for device connectivity. These solutions are implemented and certified (in Interoperability Statement) using Endress+Hauser devices with Allen-Bradley Logix controllers and RSLogix5000 software. You can get all the software you need for

What the standard means ...to System Integrators/ ...to End Users Machine Builders
FDT (Field Device Tool) is an open, standardised interface specification that can be used with any communication protocol for integrating (field) devices and their applications, from any manufacturer, into control systems or device management tools e.g. engineering and asset management tools. Flexibility: Gives you a unique, standard interface which connects any automation system to any device, providing the ability to select the best device for an application, regardless of supplier or communication protocol. Reduces the high development costs which result from the diverse environments in host systems and field devices, requiring customised interfaces for every combination. Integration in a single engineering environment to manage, commission and configure any field device from any device manufacturer and connected to any fieldbus communication protocol. Preserves investments by integrating already installed field devices. No need to replace installed base. Increased performance through seamless data exchange between any field device and asset management application. Interoperability, because DTMs leverage existing DDs and need to be built only once, regardless of the host system. Leverages user expertise through easy data access for device configuration and tuning with plug-in technology. Higher plant availability with advanced diagnostics and predictive maintenance. Freedom to choose best-in-class products with a broader choice of buses and devices.

DTM (Device Type Manager) is a software module, delivered by the manufacturer together with the device. Its the identity card of the device, which can be used with any FDT specified application. FDT/DTM technology allows for migration to future platforms. Currently supporting EtherNet/IP, HART, Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus, the annexes for DeviceNet, Ethernet, AS-Interface and Interbus are under development.

Fast and easy interaction with all devices, via the standardised FDT interface. Reduced integration time by offering a graphically rich user interface that does virtually anything possible in an advanced Windows PC-type interface. Faster learning curve using a standard HMI guideline for all DTMs. Scaleability of the solution which can fit into small or large applications with the same functionalities and benefits.

EFFICIENT ASSET MANAGEMENT

The solution package comprises all the tools you need for effective asset management of field devices connected to ControlLogix or CompactLogix. From any point in your architecture, you are able to configure or maintain all connected field devices. Combining the FDT/DTM technology and the networking capabilities of the Integrated Architecture, everything is accessible to you. You pass through the different layers of the architecture and networks to access directly to any field device.

Major measurement and status information are also accessible by the controller and can be presented to operators. Because FieldCare is based on the open FDT/DTM standard, you can configure and manage any HART device with a device DTM using this bundle. Device DTMs for all Endress+Hauser instruments are also included.

APPLICATIONS ACROSS INDUSTRY

Rockwell Automation is successfully implementing FDT-based solutions in many sectors throughout the world, from beverage & brewing to home, health & beauty, bringing the benefits which result from fast and easy device configuration and diagnosis. In view of the increasing need for regulatory compliance and security in todays manufacturing environment particularly in regulated hybrid process industries like life sciences, food, and beverage & brewing we design our products and solutions to help manufacturers reduce compliance costs and improve consistency with a number of specific features including:
