Installation Details

WADE

6000IC, Z Inside Caulk - used with lead and oakum. Adjustable floor cleanout installed in unfinished floor slab. Adjustable housing with special duty cover is designed for heavy traffic areas.

6000NH Spigot Outlet - inserted in SV TySeal Hub. Adjustable floor cleanout installed in typical waterproof floor slab. Adjustable housing provides for variations in floor fill.

6000NH Spigot Outlet - used with No-Hub coupling. Adjustable floor cleanout installed in finished floor. Adjustable housing permits flush-with-floor installation.

6000TY Hub Outlet - with gasket, accepts No-Hub and SV pipe. Adjustable floor cleanout is installed in finished floor. Adjustable housing permits flush-with-floor installation.

Cleanout Selection 1. Select the type of ferrule required. 2. Select the adjustable top assembly required for the type of floor and traffic conditions. A. If the Standard Round Top is desired, specify the entire cleanout using the ferrule size and type. Example: 6004NH, 1. B. To specify any top other than Standard Round, add the letter designation of the top to the ferrule assembly required. Example: A 6004IC ferrule with a Type Z top should be specified as 6004Z, IC. NOTE: Cleanouts for finished floor areas should be specified with nickel bronze tops. For unfinished floors or exterior use, specify cast iron tops.

Minimum Cleanout Requirements

The following excerpts from the National Plumbing Code concerning minimum cleanout requirements are listed for reference, but clarification and enlargement in specifications is recommended. Location: Cleanouts shall be not more than fifty feet apart in horizontal drainage lines of four inch nominal diameter or less, and not more than 100 feet apart for larger pipes. Change of direction: Cleanouts shall be installed at each change of direction of the building drain greater than 45. Base of stacks: A cleanout shall be provided at or near the foot of each vertical waste or soil stack. For buildings with a floor slab on fill or ground, or with less than 18- inch crawl space under the floor, the following will be acceptable instead of a cleanout at the base of the stack. The building drain may be extended to the outside of the building and terminated in an accessible cleanout, or an accessible cleanout installed in the building drain downstream from the stack not more than five feet outside the building wall. Underground drainage: Cleanouts, when installed on an underground drain, shall be extended to or above the finished grade level directly above the place where the cleanout is installed. Concealed piping: Cleanouts on concealed piping shall be extended through and terminate flush with the finished wall or floor. Size of Cleanouts Small pipes: Cleanouts shall be of the same nominal size as the pipes up to four inches, and not less than four inches for larger piping. Large pipes: For underground piping over ten inches, manholes shall be provided and located at each 90 change in direction, and at intervals of not more than 150 feet. Cleanout Clearances Small pipes: Cleanouts smaller than three inches shall be installed with a 12-inch clearance for rodding. Large Pipes: Cleanouts on three inch or larger pipes shall be installed with a clearance of not less than 18inches for rodding. Caulking: Cement, plaster or any other permanent finishing material shall not be placed over a cleanout plug. Concealment: Where it is necessary to conceal a cleanout plug, a covering plate or access door shall be provided which will permit ready access to the plug. The above excerpts cover only minimum requirements.

For improved cleanout installations the following suggestions are submitted. Unfinished floor areas: Floor cleanouts shall have a cast iron cover and be designed sufficiently strong for the traffic expected. Finished floor areas: Consideration should be give to the type and pattern of the finished floor area. Round cleanout covers are recommended for terrazzo floor and square covers for tile floors. Nonferrous covers and frames of nickel bronze should be used to give the floor area a finished appearance. Finished walls: Cleanouts in or behind walls should have an access cover and frame embedded flush with the finished wall. The cover shall be smooth nickel bronze of ample size to provide a clear access to the cleanout. Vandalism: Access and cleanout cover should be secured with vandal-proof screws where these units are accessible and apt to be removed.
