LOVE IS IN THE AIR

The last (and only) Valentine Ive had in my long life was back in 6th grade when I was dating (i.e. our moms were driving us to the movies) the six pack-sporting, best break dancer in our grade. (Priorities, people!) It was magical. I got some candy, a stuffed animal and a James Avery necklace from my middle school soulmatewhich I, uhh, promptly lost. So I wouldnt say disaster date but she showed up more than fifteen minutes late and five minutes into the date she tells me she has a boyfriend. That actually made things less awkward. We have a lot of things in common and similar taste in music. Shes a great girl and it made a good friend date.

Ill admit I had jitters the whole drive up to Austin not quite knowing what to expect what would happen that night. And as I saw the Austin city lights up ahead I also saw an array of break lights sitting duck in front of me. Just my luck that I get stuck in horrible traffic making me practically 30 minutes late to my date. I knew this mustve been a sign of the upcoming night, but much to my surprise Chance was nothing but a gentleman. His witty sense of humor kept me laughing the whole time and if there was ever any awkwardness it was completely gone after the first five minutes. I will say, though, that his choice of sports and music turned out better than his choice of pizza. The whole evening was enjoyable.

How did you make the transition from from opera to EDM?

We started learning piano from a young age and we did voicewe had singing lessons. You dont learn electronic music when youre young. The only way to go through the grades is to be classically trained, and as soon as we could branch into contemporary music, we did.
what was it like playing the main stage at Ultra in 2010?

We cant say favorites because everyones so different and wonderful in their own way. Working with Kiley Minogue was amazing because shes from Melbourne. Ke$ha was also amazing because it was before she was signed and she would come stay at our house in London. And David Guetta, our big bro, hes our mentor.
There arent a lot of female DJs in the EDM world. what does it feel to be in a music genre that sometimes can feel like a boys club?

what are yall listening to right now?

for uswe had no idea we wouldve made the top 50.

Im listening to Ellie Goulding and I love Jack Johnsonjack Johnson takes me to another place, which I love. Were constantly broadening our horizons. We can zone out to it, its not what we do, so I can really enjoy it.
Are there any crazy moments that stand out since youve been performing?

We were totally tripping out. It was a big, big moment for us and ever year going back, its unreal.
of all the people you have worked with (Ke$ha, brittany Spears, Niki Minaj, etc.) who was the best to work with?

We never really concentrate on the fact that were girlsweve never been boys. It might be more male dominated, but were fine with that and weve found the guys have been very supportive.
what was like to be named the highestranked female DJs ever, at 46, on DJ MAgs top 100 list?

I feel like our fans, really, are crazy unreal. Last night a guy shaved Nervo into the back of his head. I think our fans are just the craziest and the best. We had someone tattoo the logo on their arm.
what would you be doing if you werent doing music?

Incredible againanother pinching ourselves moment. DJ MAG top 100 was a big surprise

I dont think we would be doing anything but music. I think we would keep doing it. Music is our lives, we love it. Maybe if I had to say one thing, Id say chefs. Cooking for us is very therapeutic.

I mean, I would never, never, never do anything that I dont like. So, if I wasnt a DJ, Id probably be a wakeboard rider because thats my second passion!
what are three fun facts about you?

Jahan was crowd surfing during our last song at Meltdown in Dallas, and she missed the crowd by the smallest amount and sliced into her leg on the barrier. She didnt even notice and crowd surfed while her leg was gashed open. She had to get stitches after.
what has been the most memorable part of your career thusfar?

IF we had to answer, Rain Man used to want to be a soccer player, Yasmine would probably own a restaurant or probably be doing something else in the hospitality industry, and Jahan would have continued her studies at college.
what are three fun facts about Krewella?

Well, first of all,I hate vegetables. Secondly, I hate vegetables! Last but not least: I really HATE vegetables! I guess you can say I hate vegetables three times.

High-contrast graphic prints like black and white stripes and polka dots, monochromatic outfits of bright colors, and I think the sheer trend will still be really relevant for spring. Joanna Wilkinson graduated from a high school in Ft. Worth where she wore the same uniform for almost 13 years. She always had a love of fashion, but didnt always get to express it. When she went to UT, she began studying fashion but ended up with a degree in Radio TV Film, where she focused mostly on creative writing and digital animation. She also took on an internship in college at a photography studio, as well as a graphic design internship. After graduation, unsure of where to focus her various skills, she took a retail job at a local clothing boutique while she tried to figure it out. This job not only got her more interested in the local Austin fashion scene, but it also gave her an itch to do something more creative on the side. Thats when she started she started her blog, keepaustinstylish.com. How would you describe your style? Eclectic, drawing from different cultures and time periods. I like to mix modern higher-end pieces with vintage pieces to create a dynamic look. Whats your go-to outfit? A floral dress with heeled booties or platform sandals, a statement necklace, and a bunch of turquoise rings. If its cold, just add tights and a black jacket. Whos your style icon? What are your favorite stores in Austin that are good for ladies on a realistic budget? I love all the vintage stores. Feathers is a great one. But for some more inexpensive deals, Charm School Vintage is fantastic. And I like scouring Room Services jewelry counter. What fashion advice would you give college girls? Dont wear your pajamas to class. And lose the Nike shorts, unless you are actually running (for exercise, not just because you are late to class). Whats the best way to dress well on a budget? Thrift or vintage stores are perfect for this. You can flip through a magazine and find a high-end look you want and take that picture to a thrift store and find inexpensive versions. Looking good doesnt always mean paying the most for your outfit. Whats your style motto? Try to look stylish, but dont let your desire to look good affect your desire to have fun. You should always be comfortable with what you are wearing and never feel forced. When in doubt, wear black and smile.

How would you describe the style in Austin? Ive always referred to Austins style as being casually chic. Austin is a very casual city, but theres still a sense of style attached to that. Those that actually care about fashion are doing a good job of creating a casual cool vibe that involves lots of denim, graphic tees, leather, boots, floral dresses and vintage.

INgrEDIENTS 5 Washed and quartered strawberries c. Chopped walnuts c. Feta 1 Small package spinach c. Balsamic vinaigrette DIrEcTIoNS 1. Combine all ingredients except strawberries in large bowl and mix so all ingredients are coated with dressing and incorporated. 2. Plate and top with strawberries, even divided.

DIrEcTIoNS 1. heat large pot on medium heat and cook bacon, reserve liquids, and then set aside and chop into bite-sized pieces. 2. season chicken with salt and pepper then lightly coat in flour. 3. pan sear chicken in same pot with bacon drippings, and sear in batches. do not crowd pan. set chicken aside. 4. in same pot add 2 tbsp. olive oil and add shallot or onion. Cook until translucent, and once translucent, add garlic and cook for another minute without burning. stir continuously.

add marsala wine to pot, deglazing the pan, and be sure to scrap the bottom of the pot. 6. let wine cook off for 3-4 minutes, and once the wine reaches a simmer, add chicken stock. 7. season with salt and pepper. 8. add chicken back to pot and turn heat to low. (the liquid should have thickened.) 9. allow chicken to continue to cook for about an hour or until it's not pink in the center. 10. once fully cooked, add the mascarpone or cream cheese and let it melt. sprinkle with bacon immediately before serving.

INgrEDIENTS Strawberries Chocolate pieces or chocolate chips DIrEcTIoNS 1. Wash and dry strawberries. 2. Melt chocolate in the microwave in 30 seconds increments, stirring in between. 3. Dip strawberries into chocolate. Let chocolate drip off and place on wax paper to cool and harden.

DIrEcTIoNS 1. peel garlic and wrap with olive oil and salt in aluminum foil, ensuring there are no leaks. roast in oven at 300 degrees for 1.5 hours. 2. wash potatoes and peel if desired. 3. place potatoes in large pot cover completely with water and salt heavily.

Cook on medium to high until fork tender, then drain. in pot (while potatoes are still draining) add milk, butter, and roasted garlic cloves. once butter melts, add potatoes back into pot. Using a potato masher or fork, mash potatoes to desired consistency. add salt and pepper to taste and enjoy!

INgrEDIENTS Kosher salt or coarsely ground sea salt 1 c. Tequila (comes out to 2 1/2 per person) c. Fresh lime juice c. Fresh orange juice 2 tsp. Agave nectar or simple syrup 4 Sliced strawberries Lime for garnish DIrEcTIoNS 1. In pitcher or large cup, mix tequila, lime and orange juice, agave nectar, and strawberries. Stir well. 2. Salt (or sugar) the rim of glasses and garnish with a wedge of lime. Serve on the rocks. 3. *Single? Feel free to add an extra shot.
