PROGRESSING RESEARCH

In March of 2012, I founded Sydney Shoulder Research Institute (SSRI) with fellow Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Benjamin Cass. SSRI is dedicated to undertaking research that will translate into real patient outcomes and innovations in the field of orthopaedic surgery. SSRI focuses on only a select number of projects at any given time to maximise the quality of our research. Each year, SSRI engages two Fellows to undertake independent and collaborative research projects while developing their surgical, clinical and teaching skills under the expert guidance of Dr Young and myself as well as our esteemed colleagues Professor David Sonnabend and Dr Jeffery Hughes. My research in progress with SSRI includes: Duration of Immobilization following rotator cuff repair. Patient self-assessment of shoulder dysfunction via the internet. Clavicle fractures and bone grafting. A comparison of biocements. Long-term outcomes of joint replacement.
