This is an estimate of minimal expenses only. It is advised that each student should arrive in the U.S. with at least $2,500.00 in cash to cover "settling-in" expenses. *Health insurance is required at Virginia International University. It is highly recommended that insurance be purchased before students leave their country or students can purchase the health insurance at the beginning of the first semester at VIU. Fees: Application fee (on-campus aplication, non-refundable): ....... $150 Postal fee (for international mail): ..................................................... $65 Postal fee (for domestic mail): ............................................................ $25 Student activitie & service fee: ........................................................... $75 (paid once you arrive) English placement test fee (for those who need only): ............. $30 Tuition & Fees: Subject to change without prior notice. ESL semester tuition is based on 20 hrs/week instruction and full-time ESL students are required to attend 20 hours of classes per week. However VIU's Student Services staff helps students locate suitable housing, based on the students' particular needs and desires. The average annual living expense (housing + food) in Washington, DC area is $9,000 per student. These estimated expenses are for a single student with no wife/husband or children. Those students bringing dependents (wife/husband and children) must show proof of having an additional $3,000 per year for the first dependent and $1,500 per year for each additional dependent. Application Cancellation Refund Policy: If the U.S. Embassy in your home country has declined your visa application for any reason, any money you have deposited with us will be refunded, excluding the application and postage fees. Any and all fees and charges incurred will be paid by the student. To receive a refund, the applicant must do the following: a. Request a refund by email to [email protected], b. Fax us an application cancellation and refund request form at +1-703-591-7048. In general, VIU will refund the tuition deposit in the same manner as it was received. Please note that the time frame of this refund process can take up to 45 calendar days.
