Pocket Informant provides a feature called the SmartNum which is a default contact number or email address which gets displayed in the Contacts List or is used if you press the TALK button on your phone with a contact selected. To change the SmartNum simply open the contact for editing and go to the SmartNum eld right above the FileAs eld. Touchscreen device users can also tap on the blue letter to the right of the current data (phone number/email address), and choose which data eld you want to display for that contact from the popup window that appears. In Picture list view, just tap on the displayed data.

Viewing a Contacts Details


By default, tapping on, or pressing the Action button of your PDA on a contact will open a window displaying the contacts details and picture in the top portion of the screen, and any additional information below it. If the contact has any associated notes, these will also be displayed at the same time. Tip: By tapping on any of the contact methods supported by your device (email, phone number) Pocket Informant will attempt to initiate contact using the details provided (send an email, dial a number, or open a web page)

SIM, Windows LIVE, and other Contact Types


Starting with Windows Mobile 5 AKU3 (AKU stands for a special Service Pack that your device manufacturer gets. You know you have AKU3 if in the About Control Panel for your device the number after the rst 5 digit Build number is .3.x.x) the Pocket PC includes SIM contacts within the contacts list and so does Pocket Informant. Furthermore, starting with Windows Mobile 6 your Pocket PC can have non-native contacts such as Windows LIVE contacts and other custom kinds. Pocket Informant supports all these kinds both in the list and in editing. They may not show properly in the preview, however, depending on their type. To turn off these non-native Contacts just open Settings and go to Contacts and turn off the NonNative SIM contacts.

Call logs
You may display the system call log in the Contacts View as well as viewing a contacts specic contact log in the contact summary. When displaying a contact summary you can tap on the Display Call Logs text and Pocket Informant will show you the last 10 calls logged on your phone for that contact including statistics for that call as well.

Creating a New Contact


To get to the dialog to create a new contact you can do one of the following: Tap on the New button in Contacts View Tap on the up arrow next to the New button in any other view or application that supports the shared New menu, or on the New button on the Today screen, and choose the kind of item you want to create. Pocket Informant does not have to be running for this to work Tap and hold on an existing contact, and choose duplicate. This will create an identical contact, which can be edited to create your new one Select some text in either an Alarm Note or in a note from any other item (such as a contact), tap Edit, and select Create Contact from Selection. The selected text will be copied to the name eld.

Editing Contacts
Do one of the following to edit a contact: Tap on the contact, and then tap on Edit Mode Tap on the quick edit icon next to the contact. This will take you directly to the editor (there is no rename option for contacts) Tap and hold on the contact, choose Edit, and then the information type you want to edit. You will be taken directly to the appropriate tab in the edit dialog. Tap on the contacts preview window.
