Bell: Work done by loads applied to element nodes should be included in Eq. 3.3-1. According to the sign convention noted following Eq. 2.2-2, these loads are {r}. Therefore the right hand side of Eq. 3.3-1 should include the term {d}T{r}. The remaining development yields, instead of Eq. 3.3-6, the equation [k]{d} = {re} {r}. Thus {r} = {re} when {d} = {0}.
