Final Preparation for Implementation

Initial Learner Contact and Registration How is the course advertised?

Responses The Expository Writing Course will be advertised in the course description guide and the course scheduling guide as well. Consultants will meet with all families and guide students with writing needs to this course. The Expository Writing Course will begind in the middle of September, with all credit courses and last until the end of the first semester. The course will be repeated for a different cohort in the spring semester. Students will attend the first class of the semester in a face-to-face setting, as this is a hybrid course. Parents will also be expected to attend the first class, and this will be made clear on the registration form. Families are notified by e-mail, the program website, and postal mail of the dates for class registration in early September. The instructor will send both students and their parents a welcoming email, providing the key code, a link to the Edmodo site. During the first parent/student class, the instructor will walk participants through the sign up process, use of the site and webpage, and direct parents and students to the instructional videos posted on the site that cover this same material.

Requirements are listed on the site and will be explained in the first class and the welcoming email.

Who do learners contact for technical or administrative assistance?

Students may contact any of the instructional technology teachers during school hours for assistance. They can also contact the instructor in class,m through the disscaussion forum, email, private Edmodo message, or telephone.. There is no course text for this class. All support materials are available online. This is paperless class. Responses The instructor has her own page, sign in information and admisitrative rights on the LMS. She is both the course designer and instructor. Firefox or Explorer 8 are acceptable browsers for this course. Additional plugins required include Windows Media player, QuickTime, Flash and Adobe Reader. Students will be required to use Word for the word processing, unless they are fluent both in word processing and use of tables in another word processing program. Most documents will either be available or shared through the LMS or via email. Google documents may also be used. Automated responses will be used on holidays and off hours.

Instructor Activity Strategies Activate Links Links will be activated in the LMS, as each module is presented to students. Deadlines established on the syllabus and on the assignment page of the LMS. Also, students will be reminded of due dates in our face-to-face sessions. Assessment will occur through the posting of sub skills on the LMS, through peer review, and at the end of each module through assignment submission to the instructor.

Any problems with system failure will be directed to the IT teacher for assistance, Mike Jennings. Assignments submitted in Edmodo will be graded within one week. Those grades will appear on a cumulative grade sheet which is available to both parent and student at all times.

Strategies Log into the LMS several times a week to check on assignments and optional assignments posted on Edmodo. Clarify any confusion about assignments during face-to-face sessions, or through e-mail.

Participate in class activities Attend face-to-face class at least once per week. Complete assignments and activities as directed on the LMS, Edmodo. Post on the LMS discussion board and participate in discussion board activities as directed. Complete class assignments Complete assignments by the assigned due date. Strategies Read the postings of their student and other students on the discussion boards, addressing concerns if and when they arise. Read and attend to the syllabus outline, deadlines, and instructional goals of the course, contacting the instructor by e-mail, phone or face-to-face as necessary with concerns.

Manage the technology issues surrounding the computer which the student uses at home.

Finding Lost Learners

Contact students who have missed more than one face-to-face class or who have failed to hand in an assignment. Contact parents if student nonparticipation continues to be an issue.
