Dance Kinesiology

Dance kinesiology uses anatomical and biomechanical principles to help dancers optimize performance, reduce injury risk, and increase career longevity. It focuses on understanding how the skeletal and muscular systems apply to dance movements and uses this knowledge to design flexibility and strength exercises. Dance kinesiology also examines which bones, muscles and joints are prone to injury in specific dance styles in order to improve technique and prevent injuries. There are eight primary somatic practices in dance kinesiology including Pilates, Rolfing, Feldenkrais and Alexander techniques, which blend scientific knowledge with artistic expression to empower dancers.

Dance Kinesiology Every dancer wants to achieve optimal performance.

Dance kinesiology uses anatom ical and biomechanical principles to enhance dancersperformance. By understanding the function of body joints, dancemovements can be optimized and help dancers r educe their risk of injury and increase their performance longevity.Dance kinesi ology is very similar to dance medicine and science, butfocuses more on somatic practices and anatomy. Kinesiology is thescientific study of the anatomy, physio logy, and mechanics of body movement. Dance kinesiology shows how the skeletal a nd muscularsystems of the body apply to dance and apply this knowledge todesigni ng flexibility and strengthening exercises for dancers. The fieldalso focuses on the specific bones, muscles, and joints that are proneto injury in dance, and w orks to improve dancers technique andprevent injuries. In dance kinesiology, there are eight primary systems of body work or somatic practices: the Pilates Method , Rolfing, the FeldenkraisMethod, the Alexander Technique, Ideokinesis, Body-Min d Centering, the Bartenieff Fundamentals, and Laban Movement Analysis.Dance kines iology offers valuable scientific knowledge andunderstanding to dancers by blend ing anatomical and kinesiologicalprinciples with artistic expression. Combining art and science canempower dancers to realize their full artistic potential.P.S. Look for future posts on the individual dance kinesiology somaticpractices!
