Buzzer Beaters...
Failing to reach a new agreement, the NBA canceled two more weeks of games. The latest cancellation totals at least 102 games and run through November 28. This marks the third time commissioner David Stern has postponed games as the league's lockout continues. Previously, the NBA cancelled its preseason and the first two weeks of the regular season, which was set to begin on Nov. 1. Last week, the NBA player's union and owners met for 30 hours over three days with a federal mediator. Negotiations fell apart when union officials were told they must commit to a 50-50 split of revenues before a salary cap system would be discussed. The two sides spoke this week, but have yet to reach a new agreement. Spence named ACC Linebacker of the Week For the third-consecutive week, University of Miami senior Sean Spence was named the ACC Linebacker of the Week on Monday. Spence was again the Canes leader on defense. The prolific linebacker played in the middle against the Yellow Jackets and racked up 10 tackles to lead all Miami players. The Miami native had six solo stops and a tackle for a loss of two yards. As the defensive captain, Spence helped hold Georgia Tech - one of the nations most potent offenses - to a season-low seven points, 35.9 off of its average. Spence has been the anchor of the defense all season and has amassed 65 total tackles (10th nationally), 9.5 tackles for loss (seventh nationally) for 35 yards, three sacks for 23 yards and a forced fumble. No other player at a BCS school has won defensive player of the week honors for their conference three times. Former Bronco Shines Former Homestead High standout JoJo Nicolas had a big game defensively for Miami against Georgia Tech last week. The senior safety, had a key interception late in the game, his second of the season. Nicolas biggest contribution of the game came when he recovered a fumble in the end zone for the first touchdown of his collegiate career. T.O. offered Arena Football Contract While no NFL teams showed up to watch Terrell Owens work out on Tuesday, T.O. still maintained confidence that some team would be interested in his services, and as it turns out, he was right. It just might not be the team he had in mind. The team is Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League.

The score capped off a 71-yard drive that included a 30-yard rush by Darriet Perry. The touchdown put FIU up 17-7 with 6:31 remaining in the third quarter. Local cheerleader earns world ranking

By MIKE DILL At the age of eight, Megan Glisson challenged herself to be the best cheerleader. Now, just eight years later, Glisson has been named one of the Top 21 Cheerleaders in the World. The junior at South Dade High has been a member of Top Gun Cheerleading since she was nine. She has been on teams that have won numerous National Titles and a team that won the World Championship. At first I wanted to get into gymnastics, Glisson said. But the gym moved away. So I went to Top Gun and have been there ever since. Glisson has been able to show her athletic ability through her tumbling and stunts around the world through her involvement with Top Gun Cheerleading. The team recently traveled to compete in Australia and is a fixture at national competitions in Orlando. Along with being featured on ESPN, Glisson has also appeared on the big screen as a member of the Pink Flamingos in Bring it On: All or Nothing. Cheerleading has given me juggling a full schedule. While she is a member of Top Gun, she is also a varsity cheerleader for South Dade and is on the Bucs JV volleyball team. Glisson says all her coaches are understanding when it comes to participating on other teams. Between going to school, cheer practice and volleyball Im busy for about 17 hours a day, Glisson said. With a tough schedule you learn to overcome difficulties and make better choices. Just as she excels in her athletics, Glisson is also an Honors student with a 3.5 grade point average. Her goal is to obtain a cheerleading scholarship to the University of Hawaii. She has already received offers from some schools, and even spoke to coaches at the University of Miami to join the diving team. In college, Glisson plans to study medicine and wants to become a Cardiologist.
