Book Descriptions
Islam and Christianity in general Cross and Crescent: Responding to the Challenge of Islam Chapman, Colin G., Intervarsity Press, 2003 This is a must read if your interested in the current issues affecting Christian leadership in the face of mass conversion to Islam. In the Phillipines more then 100,000 a year convert away and in Europe similar numbers are found as well as in India. This book explains the current crises and the challenge. Explained here is how the radical secular fascists are attacking Christianity at the same time as Islam is allowed to preach in the public schools. A wonderful companion to `Militant Islam Reaches America' this book will help you realize the current crises and what must be done. A wonderful inspiration to bring the reader back to the joys of the Christian faith which is the religion of peace and exposing the treatment of women in Islam and the denial of basic human rights in Islamic countries. (Review by Sth J. Frantzman)

Encountering the World of Islam, Swartley, Keith E. (editor), Authentic, 2005 Encountering the World of Islam explores the Muslim world and God's plan for Muslims. Investigate Islam through this positive and hopeful book by reading from a collection of writings which cover the life of Muhammad, the history of Islamic civilization, Islamic beliefs, Muslims today and their everyday lives across the diverse cultures of different Muslims peoples from Morocco to Indonesia. Also gain insight into Muslim culture and worldview and Christian outreach toward Muslims - our response to Islam and prayer for the Muslim world. More than 80 different practitioners guide you through this introduction to the World of Islam Islam & Christian Witness, Goldsmith M, Authentc, 1998 Islamic fundamentalism has grown sharply in the last ten years, and in many parts of the world, notably Africa, a major struggle is in progress between Christianity and Islam for the hearts and minds of the people. Martin Goldsmith explores the changing world role of the Muslim faith, examines in central beliefs, discusses areas of agreement and disagreement between Christianity and Islam, and then explains how Christians can

effectively present the Gospel to Muslims. What are the likely stumbling-blocks to Muslims? What can Christianity offer? What opposition does the Muslim convert face?

Kissing Cousins, Musk B, Monarch books, 2006 Islam and Christianity are kissing cousins. With common origins and some similar beliefs, the relationship between the two faiths should be one of mutual respect and understanding . . . right? Through the years, however, the two faiths have experienced serious conflicts, and current differences are presenting new challenges. In this powerful book filled with striking insights, author Bill Musk unravels misconceptions and seeks to change mistaken views for the better. Touching the Soul of Islam, Musk, Bill, Monarch Books, 2005 Bill Musk brings a first-hand view of the issues underlying the divide between the culture of Islam and the worldview of the West. Relying on his encyclopedic knowledge of the Muslim people and mindset, he compares and contrasts for the English-speaking world these often competing cutural models, shedding light on a somewhat isolated and (more often than not) misunderstood people-group. Enduring themes of family and familial ties, gender, and the tension between honor and shame are brought to the fore and given the proper context for those unfamiliar with the subject. Stories and tales illustrate the themes and bring more understanding than the average comparative text. Although the separation of our cultures will probably exist for the foreseeable future, Musk has laid the groundwork for understanding and healing to take seed. Waging Peace On Islam Mallhoui, Christine, Intervarsity Press, 2002 As relations between Islam and the West grow more polarized, many Christians are nervous about meeting Muslims. How can we possibly overcome years, if not centuries, of mistrust? Christine Mallouhi, who married into a Muslim family and has lived much of her life in the Middle East, suggests we should emulate St. Francis, who during the Crusades went to be with the Muslims and even shared the gospel with the Sultan. We should start by seeing Muslims as people, she suggests. "When Muslims are skeptical of our creed, confused by our message and wounded by our warfare, the most credible witness left is our lives. Muslims need to see Jesus, and the only way most of them will see him is in us." Here is a book that gives history, insight and much of the author's own story in offering the Prince of Peace to Muslims.

Muslim Evangelism: Contemporary Approaches to Contextualization Parshall, Phil, Send the Light Inc, 2003 Too long the church has been programmed to accept the inevitabilities of meager results in the efforts toward Muslim evangelization. The reasons for this failure in mission must now be probed and resolved as the world today is coming alive to the presence of the Muslim religious community. The author asks the missions world to forsake former presuppositions, and to become conscious of God speaking in a new and fresh mannernot in regard to His changeless Word but in areas of extra-biblical methodology. (Amazon) Return to list Relating to Muslims Friendship First, Bell S, Friendshipfirst, 2003 There is no quick solution when discussing the gospel with Muslim people. However, it is possible to make fewer mistakes. This manual shows how. It is as jargon-free and non-technical as possible. Written in a colourful A4 magazine format (84 pages), it is a lively, user friendly tool, designed to get the reader to the 'first base' of friendship with a Muslim. The manual is about how to relate to Muslims as people and is written for Christians who have little or no knowledge of the subject. It is designed to make it easy to retirve information when you need it.

Faith to Faith, Moucarry C, IVP, 2004 Is it possible for Christians and Muslims to engage in meaningful dialogue, in genuine and truthful debate? Do we dare to put our faith on trial? To listen to each other in the best possible way, and to give the reason for the hope that we have, with gentleness and respect, as we are commanded? Christians and Muslims have lived alongside each other in various parts of the world for hundreds of years. The two faiths hold much in common, tracing their roots back to a common ancestor. And yet they have always held to something of a ghetto mentality. Mutual ignorance is the price paid for troublefree co-existence, and for some, perhaps, the price for survival. Prejudice and

misunderstanding leads to confrontational debate, where one side tries to ridicule, attack and defeat the other. Political correctness and tolerance simply leads to superficial agreement. Chawkat Moucarry believes that there is a better way. Ever since he surprised the religious Education teacher by asking if he could attend the Islamic class at high school, he has been wholeheartedly committed to genuine Christian Muslim dialogue. His prayer is that this book will help us to gain a better understanding of each other's faith, as well as our own, and above all a better understanding of the founder of that faith. Return to list Reaching Women Longing to Call Them Sisters, Fran Love, Jeleta Eckheart (editors), William Carey, 2003 Do you long to embrace Muslim women as sisters in Christ? Can you envision hands of henna around His throne? In this book you will discover the needs of Muslim women, efforts that are bringing Muslim women to Christ, tactics to help cross-cultural workers cope with life in the Muslim world. The contributors to this volume - all active in Muslim ministries - share their concerns, challenges, and rebukes. If you wish to minister the kingdom of God to Muslim women, this compendium will encourage, educate, and challenge you to think strategically and prayerfully about the task to which God has called you Miniskirts, Mothers and Muslims, Mallouhi C, Monarch Books, 2004 A startling look at the Muslim world, through the eyes of a Western Christian in a Muslim family. For Christians who work with, live with, or minister to Muslims, this book helps explain the world of Muslim women. Topics include role models, segregation, restrictions, opportunities, family life, and unwritten rules. Christine A. Mallouhi, an Australian, is married to an Arab Christian. She and her husband have lived in many different Muslim cultures.

Daughters of Islam: Building Bridges with Muslim Women

Adeney, Miriam, Intervarsity Press, 2002

Return to list Church Planting Planting Churches in Muslim Cities, A Team Approach Livingstone, Greg, Baker Academic, 1993 Livingstone creates a framework for this book that draws from many different sources: his own experience in missions, the example of more than 100 missionaries, the Acts model, and church growth theory. This book teaches missionaries to help Christians in Islamic communities to be more church-minded in their thinking. A Vision of the Possible:Pioneer Church Planting in Teams Sinclair, Daniel, Monarch, 2006 A Vision of the Possible offers thorough presentation of effective church planting among unreached people groups. From apostolic calling to team dynamic to leadership development, Sinclair equips the aspiring church planter to be effective and fruitful.

Church Planting Movements: How God is Redeeming a Lost World Garrison, David, Bangalore, India, Wigtake Resources, 2004 "An extraordinary and ground-breaking book. From now on it will not be possible to discuss evangelism and missions without considering Garrison's description of a church planting movement. Certainly, everyone who reads this book will deeply desire to see a church planting movement break out among his own community." - Dr. Robert Garrett, Professor of Missiology, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Muslims, Magic, and the Kingdom of God Love, Rick, William Carey Library Pub, 2003 A remarkable study on the ancient roots and the present realities of Islamic fundamentalism, especially as it is being expressed in Egypt and the Arab world. The author objectively and compassionately attempts to understand Islamic fundamentalism from the inside and examines what it is like to "get under the skin" of leaders such as Khumeini, Hasan alBanna, and Sayyid Qutb.

Islam and the West, Chapman C, 1998 For 1400 years Islam and the West have come into frequent contact, often in unfriendly circumstances. Today three possible states of being: conflict, co-existence or conversion must be considered when describing the meeting between Muslim counities and Western countries. Addressing several key issues including education, mission, apologetics and human rights, the author explores Muslim attitudes to life in the West and the increasingly secularised societies in which Muslims find themselves living. Addressing several key issues including education, mission, apologetics and human rights, the author explores Muslim attitudes to life in the West and the increasingly secularised societies in which Muslims find themselves living. Holy War, Musk B, Monarch Books, 2002 Are we facing a clash of civilisations? Tensions between the West and the Muslim world run high. Some Western media equate Muslims with fundamentalists - a serious error. Nevertheless, in Muslim countries, anger with the West is widely seen as justified, particularly for the West's tolerance of injustices in Palestine. While grievances persist, there will be no shortage of wiling Muslim martyrs, or Muslim attacks on Western targets. What drives itself tends towards fundamentalism. The Prophet Muhammad gained control of the holy site of Mecca by the sword. By the sword's equivalent today some Muslims seek to fulfil their interpretation of God's will. Dr Mark details the fundamentalist convictions, contemporary examples, and key figures, addressing central questions: Where does authority lie in Islam? How can reform movements develop? How do "nonfundamentalist" Muslims view Islamists? Can the West accommodate resurgent

Islam? Are all contemporary faiths streaked with a fundamentalist dye? "The challenge of the 21st century," he comments, "is to draw back from seeing Muslims or Islam as the enemy. The kingdom of God grows in people's hearts, not via the sword but via the cross." Return to list Mission in General Jesus Says Go, Wells R, Monarch Books, 2006 Whether you are considering missions as a life-long calling or a short-term missions trip, there are many factors to consider family, acclimating to a foreign culture, monetary support, etc. Even our expectations need to be realistic and well-founded. Missionary stories of all types from around the world illustrate the problems, solutions, and ongoing challenges of the missionary life.

The Church is Bigger Than You Think, Johnstone P, Christian Focus, 1998 Patrick Johnstone shares his passion for mission with us, showing us that the Church is bigger than we think in terms of Time, Size and Structure. The book has emerged from years of ministry to Christian workers and leaders and seminars. It comprehensively takes the reader through every aspect of the growth of the church, and is an excellent companion to 'Operation World'. It is rooted in scripture and will be an inspiration to us all. Patrick Johnstone worked for many years with WEC International. He and his wife Robyn have now 'retired' to Cambridgeshire, England. Patrick is continuing to write and is involved in the updating of Operation World. Dont Waste Your Life, Piper J, Crossway, 2003 Most people slip by in life without a passion for God, spending their lives on trivial diversions, living for comfort and pleasure, and perhaps trying to avoid sin. This book will warn you not to get caught up in a life that counts for nothing. It will challenge you to live and die boasting in the cross of Christ and making the glory of God your singular passion. If you believe that to live is Christ and to die is gain, read this book, learn to live for Christ, and don't waste your life! Let the Nations Be Glad, Piper J, IVP, 2003

The goal of missions, John Piper contends, is to bring the nations to worship the greatness and glory of God. But worship is not only the goal of missions, it is also what fuels missions. `Passion for God in worship precedes the offer of God in preaching. You can't commend what you don't cherish. Missionaries will never call out, "Let the nations be glad!" who cannot say from the heart, "I rejoice in the Lord ... I will be glad and exult in thee. I will sing praise to thy name, O Most High."' This book challenges the church at the beginning of the twenty-first century to rouse from slumber and take the gospel to every tribe and nation. Contains two brand new chapters on the godly motivation for mission and the significance of Christian worship. John Piper has been senior pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, USA, since 1980. He has written numerous books that call readers to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples Tentmaking: Business as Missions, Lai, Patrick, Authentic, 2005 This book decribes the ins and outs of business overseas as a means of missions. Those who are unfamiliar with the world of tentmaking will find valuable information to introduce them to the concept. Designed to be a manual, Tentmaking is more than just an overview of questions and issues. This work will also serve as an in-depth reference guide for tentmakers in the 21st century.

Unveiled At Last, Sjogren B, YWAM, 1998 Read the Bible as one book with one introduction, one story, and one conclusion. Bob Sjogren unlocks the unifying theme of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation: God redeeming people from every tongue, tribe, and nation.
