A physical examination is conducted by a medical professional to investigate a patient's body for signs of disease. It involves both taking a medical history from the patient about their symptoms and conducting various tests and examinations of the body. Together with the medical history, the physical examination helps determine an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan, which becomes part of the patient's official medical record. While routine annual physicals have not been shown to reduce illness or death risks and may lead to overtesting, more comprehensive examinations are still used, especially for executive physicals which involve multiple detailed tests and scans.
