What Were Learning Scholastic News: This week we read about pumpkins and learned more about nonfiction text features.. We used the Scholastic News to help us review our science understandings of pumpkins and created a diagram of a pumpkin to finish our text features. ail! ": #ur mini$lessons this week have focused on nouns. We learned that nouns are a person% place or a thing and dont forget an animal. We created word webs to make nouns for people% places and things. We went on a scavenger hunt in the classroom to find all the nouns &and put them in the right categor!'. (nd our final activit! with nouns this week is to create a noun mad lib. ) hope the children en*o! this activit! toda! as much as it brought back great memories of when ) was !oung filling these out. The children also got to watch the classic School +ouse ,ock clip on nouns. The! reall! en*o!ed it even though the! have no idea what a record machine was.

What we are Learning: Science: This week we talked about animals that have covering on them that the! use to protect themselves. The children immediatel! knew that we were talking about camouflage. We talked in detail about wh! it is important for certain animals to be colored like the! are and how this protects them from predators that want to have them for dinner. We have had a few friends bring in some show and tell of different feathers and some +#T *erk!.

What we are Learning:

-ath: This week we have been working on the strateg! counting on. This is one we are familiar with from our first unit in math. The children are solving e<uations for the unknown partner. This means that the problem gives them the total and one partner and the! must solve to find the other partner. This is a trick! concept for some of us. The unit gives them several strategies that the! can use to solve for the unknown partner. ) have told the students that the! can use an! strateg! that the! like the! *ust have to be able to explain how the! got their answer. Writing: We did an assessment this week on what we know so far in writing a narrative piece of writing. We took the process all the wa! through so the! could use publishing supplies. ) am so impressed and ver! proud of the writing !our students are doing. The! have a lot to be proud of. ) sure am=
