The Aptis Reading Exam


1# ************************* he "ptis reading exam consists of + parts. ,t must be completed within -. minutes. /o time guidance is given for each part of the test. )or this reason time management is key to success. ,f you don0t allow enough time for the final parts1 you could lose marks needlessly. he tasks get more difficult as the exam progresses. 2# ************************* 2art 1 is usually fairly easy. Candidates must choose one of - words to fit gaps in a short text. he vocabulary choices are simple1 but a good knowledge of - areas of vocabulary3 collocations1 con4unctions and prepositions will improve your mark on this part of the exam. -# ************************* 2art 2 is a little more challenging. Candidates have to order 5 lines of a text 6there are 7 but the first is completed as an example#. ,t tests understanding of text 8cohesion0 through the use of pronouns and adverbs. 9ou have to link words like 8it01 8them0 and 8there0 to words in previous paragraphs. 9ou are required to drag the sentences with your mouse to reorder them. +# ************************* 2art - is more challenging still. :ike 2art 11 you must choose words to fit gaps in a text. ;owever1 the text is longer1 the vocabulary is more difficult and all the words you need are in a box below the text1 along with several distracters that often cause candidates to make errors. ,t tests your knowledge of collocations1 rare vocabulary meaning1 grammar words and text cohesion. <# ************************** 2art + is often the most challenging part. 9ou have a long text 67<. words# and several headings that you must match to the paragraphs.
