Sponsors: Fowler Ridge Wind Farm LLC is owned by BP Alternative Energy North America Inc. and Dominion Resources, Inc.. A 50,000 acre site in Benton County, near the town of Fowler. The Fowler Ridge Wind Farm, when complete, will be one of the largest single wind-power facilities in the U.S./World The first phase of the project is expected to generate 400 megawatts (MW) and is expected to be operating by the end of 2008. BP will retain ownership of 100 MW of phase one of the project. Additional phases are expected to generate a further 350 MW, bringing the total project output to 750 MW. When in full operation, the Fowler Ridge Wind Farm will generate enough carbon-free electricity to power more than 200,000 average American homes. Wind Turbines: The first phase of development is expected to utilize 222 wind turbines: 182 Vestas 1.65 MW turbines with a hub height of 262 feet and a rotor diameter of 269 feet and 40 Clipper 2.5 turbines with a hub height of approximately 262 feet and a rotor diameter of 314 feet. Above-ground transmission lines will be constructed in a 25 mile corridor extending from the wind project substations in a south-easterly direction to connect to American Electric Power transmission lines located near Montmorenci, Indiana. Sale of 200 MW of power from phase one of the development will be sold under two long-term contracts, each for 100 MW to Indiana Michigan Power and Appalachian Power, both subsidiaries of American Electric Power. Sale of the additional 200 MW of power from phase one will be sold under a long-term contract to Dominion Energy Marketing Inc., a subsidiary of Dominion Resources, Inc.

Project Benefits: Phase one of the Fowler Ridge Wind Farm is expected to employ approximately 350 workers during its construction. The project will employ a full-time staff of more than 20 workers who will monitor and maintain the site after phase one has become fully operational. Project operators will also contract with various service providers in the region for specific tasks. Development of the wind farm will provide substantial benefits to the community, including new sources of revenue to local landowners, providers of goods and services and taxing bodies.
