What is a protected bike lane?
Dedicated, inviting spaces for people on bikes in the roadway. Protected from motor vehicles Separated from sidewalks. Safe, efficient and ease of travel for all street users.

SAFETY: 56% reduction in injuries to all road users, 84% decrease in lawfulness. CONGESTION: Average travel time for motor vehicle down 14%. LAWFULNESS: Stoplight compliance has soared from 31% to 81%. INCREASE IN RIDERSHIP: Bike traffic has doubled. BUSINESS GROWTH: Local businesses saw a 49 percent increase in retail sales while local businesses throughout Manhattan only saw a 3 percent increase.

INCREASED RIDERSHIP: Bicycle trips have gone up 207% on Hornby Street since installation. LAWFULNESS: Sidewalk riding decreased by 80%. SAFETY: All collisions dropped 18%, no reported collisions involving bicycles.

NEIGHBORHOOD ASSET: 83% of surveyed residents say 15th St. protected bike lane is a neighborhood asset. INCREASED RIDERSHIP: Bicycle traffic increased 200% after installation. SAFETY: Ninety percent of users say they feel safer bicycling on Pennsylvania Ave because of the new green lanes.
