W hat is PCI Expansion?
The PCI Bus (short for Peripheral Component Interconnect) has become the standard I/O bus on every modern personal computer, and simply put, one of the most successful bus standards ever developed. Because of this success, the proliferation of adding PCI cards to a computer to enable a variety of PCI-based applications has been nothing short of explosive. Even with the introduction of more robust computers, the need for increased functionality of high-bandwidth applications has still not been satisfied. As a result, the demand for additional PCI slots for increased functionality has followed the tremendous growth of PCI card usage. In response, MAGMA has developed and patented products called PCI Expansion Systems. PCI Expansion Systems allow you to extend, or expand, the PCI bus outside of a host computer to a remote location, computer or device. The remote computer or device communicates with, and receives the PCI bus signal from the host computer, and acts as if its an extended part of the host computer. These systems allow users (and OEMs) of PCI-based applications to increase the functionality of their host computers in two fundamental ways: Our PCI-to-PCI Expansion Systems add PCI slots and drive bays in a separate enclosure (rack-mount or tower) to PCI-based servers or desktop computers, allowing users to get more PCI functionality out of a single host machine. Utilizing patented PCI Expansion Technology, everything installed in the enclosure actually acts as if its inside the host computer. This is accomplished by the system communicating to the host via a high-speed link...providing high data transfer rates between the host computer and the hardware within the expansion system. Simply connect our PCI card into an available PCI slot in your host server or desktop, and our system transparently adds four to thirteen PCI slots and drive bays to your host machine. Our CardBus-to-PCI Expansion Systems provide PCI slots in a separate enclosure that connects to a PC Notebook or Apple PowerBook (which do not have built-in PCI slots) through a 32-bit CardBus slot. With MAGMAs patented PCI Expansion Technology, everything installed in the enclosure actually acts as if its inside the notebook. Simply connect our CardBus card into your notebook, and our system transparently adds one to four PCI slots and drive bays to your host computer. CardBus-to-PCI Expansion Systems eliminate the need for a desktop or stationary computer, and provide mobility to demanding professionals in numerous marketseven for their most challenging applications.
