STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
I am inspired to build upon my technical skills and equip myself with perceptive understanding of management and enhanced holistic competencies. So I look forward to pursuing a course such as Masters in Engineering Management. It will pave the way for my future career growth in challenging techno-managerial and entrepreneurial roles. After completing my school education I joined the under graduation program in Instrumentation and Control Engineering (ICE). Besides core subjects, I studied subjects like Business Environment, HR Management, Entrepreneurial Development and Management that engrossed me. During my bachelors the projects that I undertook proved valuable to strengthen my knowledge and skills. The industrial training further added substantial value to my academic experience. In college, I led internet marketing committee of the college cultural and technical fest for two consecutive years. I was actively involved in internet marketing along with my undergraduate studies for four years. As a freelancer, I handled over 200 internet marketing projects for international and domestic clients. To outsource internet marketing work, I collaborated with small marketing companies in the UK and handled their marketing projects. To manage outsourced internet marketing projects, I led a 12-member team. I have an online branding and promotion portal (www.bestseo-services.com) which provides information and professional services of internet marketing and serves the target audience. Moreover, I have a health portal on mesothelioma cancer awareness (www.besthealth-guide.com) principally for US inhabitants. Additionally, I have an education portal (www.edulyf.com) that provides updates on competitive exams in India and their results, expert advice, admission procedure in universities, study material, practice tests, etc. These experiences empowered me with leadership, interpersonal, networking and team skills and knowledge of business fundamentals. After my under graduation, I was selected to work for Ericsson India Global Services Pvt Ltd, Noida as a Radio Frequency Engineer. I work with Planning and Optimization, Mobistar team of Network Engineering department. During this fifteen months' tenure, I have honed my team work and interpersonal skills.. The competencies that I have developed till date will keep me in good stead in my future pursuits to make substantial contributions in my chosen field. Alongside my job, I have been working with NGOs like CRY and Make a Difference that work in the direction of protecting child rights and promoting child education in India. Further, I am associated with Onlineindiaeducation.com as Campaign Manager to promote free and quality digital education in India, and we have achieved the mark of 1 million visitors per month. These engagements have given me satisfaction that I have contributed to some noble causes.
Post my graduate studies, I would like to take up the position of an analyst in a well-known MNC. The experience will help me further consolidate my abilities and will prepare me for further challenging roles. Eight to ten years down the line, I would start my own business. With my post MS experience, I would accrue resources and develop the know-how and networks required to establish my own venture. The MEM program at Duke University, Pratt School of Engineering will equip me with the knowledge and skills in consulting and entrepreneurship that I need to actualize my goals. The programs sharp focus on practical-based education and holistic curriculum will groom me thoroughly for roles I aspire to step into in the future. In particular, I am drawn towards the courses like Intellectual Property, Business Law, and Entrepreneurship and electives, Engineering Entrepreneurship, Innovation Management, International Operations Management. Further, involvements such as weekly seminars and Workshop Series have appealed me a lot. It will be great opportunity for me to interact with entrepreneurs and business leaders, learning from their experiences will be simply invaluable for me. I would also share my insights and knowledge in discussions with my peers and contribute to case studies, analyses and team projects. Thus, I look forward to a mutually beneficial and rewarding academic sojourn at Duke University.
