For More Efficient Machining of Hard Materials
T-CBN
T-CBN Series for Hard Materials
PCBN Tools T-CBN Series
Specialists in high efficiency machining of hardened steels, cast irons, and sintered metals.
High speed and long tool life as well as consistent surface finish.
Advantages of T-CBN series
Drastic reduction in machining costs Allows higher cutting conditions in machining of hardened steels and cast irons. T-CBN inserts with a wiper edge allows additional reduction in machining time. Increased machining accuracy Consistent long tool life allows drastic reduction in the amount of dimensional compensation.

Features of T-CBN series
This is a tool material, in which fine crystals of cubic boron nitride (the hardest material next to diamond) is tightly compacted and sintered on the cemented carbide base using special binder under high temperature and high pressure. The hardness is more than twice that of cemented carbide, with the hardness at high temperature exceeding that of cemented carbide. CBN does not have a tendency to react with ferrous materials (which is not different from the case with diamond) and thus suitable for high speed cutting of cast iron, finishing of the hardened steel, cast iron, ferrous sintered metals (valve seat, etc.). Also, this material is suited for finishing of super heat resistant alloys. The use of CBN sintered material enables the finish surface accuracy (expected only through grinding up to now) simply by cutting.

General rule
For continuous cutting , a small honing angle is favorable to minimize wear in general. For interrupted cutting , a large honing angle is favorable to minimize fracturing in general.
T-CBN inserts with wiper edge
A finishing edge (wiper edge) is formed at the point of intersection between corner radius and straight cutting edge.
Wiper edge geometry
Effect of wiper edge
Doubles the productivity g Reduced machining time
The wiper edge can double the feed rate and also does not deteriorate the surface roughness.
(Note: Feed rate: f < .012 SFM)
" 02 .0
Superior surface roughness g By integrating roughing and finishing into
one process, productivity can be increased.
Compared with conventional inserts only with corner radius, surface roughness can be improved with the wiper edge.
