Gt1 Brochure

Grease traps are underground tanks used to prevent fats, oils, and greases from solidifying and blocking drainage pipes from facilities that serve over 30 meals per day. The GT1 grease trap has a storage volume of 150 liters and is designed for applications up to 150 covers per day. It uses a two-stage design with an internal baffle to allow fats and oils to separate from solids and settle. Regular maintenance is required to empty the trap before discharge pipes become blocked.

Introduction

Gt
G r e a s e

Grease Traps are used to support drainage systems, helping prevent fats, oils and greases (FOGs) from solidifying and blocking pipes downstream. They are particularly important in kitchens and processing facilities where more than 30 meals per day are served regularly and grease / bi products are discharged into the foul drainage system .They are also an important pre requisite where drainage is connected to a Package Sewage Treatment System, particularly if there is a danger of significant levels of FOGs entering the treatment plant.

Application & Design

The GT1 is our smallest Grease Trap with a storage volume of 150 litres. It can cater for applications up to 150 covers/meals a per day. Ideal for small cafes, restaurants or takeaways. As shown opposite left the GT1 has a simple two stage design, separated by a baffle inside the trap. Foul water entering the trap will have FOGs suspended within the flow. As most FOGs have a lower specific gravity than water they will settle out in the first stage behind the baffle. The heavier solids eg. vegetable matter and fines will sink to the base and because the baffle has a gap at the bottom this allows sludge and solids to migrate and build up in the base of the second stage of the trap as well as the first. If the sludge builds up and blocks the baffle at the base then the liquid inside the trap will rise and overflow the baffle, eventually the trap will block completely. So regular checks and maintenance are imperative.

Maintenance
As with all grease treatment systems there should be a prescribed maintenance regime in place to regular monitor and clean the trap. This will be dependant on theapplication and nature of waste water. As a rule of thumb we would recommend weekly inspection and the emptying of the trap will be as required. However the unit should be emptied before the discharge pipe blocks with sediment, this will cause the unit to back up and block the upstream drainage system and if the drainage invert is particularly shallow the unit may overflow if not sealed. Please Note : Waste from grease traps and separators is classed as special waste and this waste should only be taken away by a certified company. If you require further details on specialist servicing and cleaning companies we would be happy to recommend one for you.

Installation

BRITISH WATER

The GT1 must be installed on a minimum 100mm concrete pad and a minimum 100mm concrete surround as detailed below. If in trafficked areas a reinforced concrete cover will need to be designed to take the loading. We strongly advise not to site this product in a trafficked area. In high water tables and wet ground conditions then a waterproof membrane should be installed under the concrete and in extreme conditions it may be neccesary to underpin the installation with land drainage to take excess water away from the trap. Extension can be used to extend the GT1 to a deeper invert. However anything deeper than 600mm we recommend, either a brick built chamber providing for man access as shown opposite in Fig. 1 or a prefabricated concrete chamber.
