December 2010
CHRISTMAS FACTFILE:
Christmas trees were initially
decorated with foods such
as apples, nuts and dates!
If you received all the gifts
from the song The Twelve
Days of Christmas you
would have 364 presents!
The tallest ever Christmas
tree was in Washington in
1950, and reached 221 feet
tall!
The holiday Boxing day
was originally celebrated in
England for the poor servants of the rich people. After Christmas, the servants
would box up all the leftovers from their masters and
take them home to their
families.
Jingle bells was the first song
to be sung in space!
And so another year is nearly over

with a story to send us too!
A Life Changing Gift!
It was Monday morning ,the first day back at school and Maddy Smith was not looking
forward to it.
I'm not going to school Maddy yelled, it's so boring!
Fine then, your birthday is cancelled and so is your puppy, said her mother.
Maddy stomped upstairs to get changed. She had wanted a puppy for so long that she
stopped arguing just to get her own way.
Maddy had picked out a puppy earlier that month. So she packed her bag and walked
out of the house shutting the door with a 'clang'.
Her day was long and hard but the thought of the puppy kept her going.
The next morning it was her birthday. She got up and without a thought ran downstairs
and into the living room .
There in the middle of the room was a ball of cuteness
and happiness!
It sat up staring at Maddy with its patched eye and its
snowy white coat.
She ran towards the puppy and hugged it, not too tight,
just right! Then Maddy took Patch out for a walk.
Every day after that she went to school with no trouble
at all.
She wanted to get through school as fast as she could so
that she could go home and see Patch.
Patch had truly changed Maddys' life forever!
