SUSTAINABLE
FOOTBALL STADIUM

INTRODUCTION:

A stadium is a place or venue for (mostly) outdoor sports, concerts, or


other events and consists of a field or stage either partly or completely
surrounded by a structure designed to allow spectators to stand or sit and
view the event. It also has a central role in the citys financial , geographical
and political image .
A stadium is one of those building typologies which have the ability to
shape the town or city. They represents the nations pride and appreciation.

NEED :

There are just 35 football stadiums in India having capacity more than
12000.
The existing stadiums

There are just 4 stadiums in India which can accommodate more than
50000 people during a game , which is very low for a country of such high
population of more than 1.2 billion people.
The recent success of ISL ( Indian Soccer League ) clearly depicts the
upcoming demand of football stadiums and the rise in the popularity of the
sport.
India will be hosting the U-17 FIFA World Cup in the year 2017 for which a
world class football stadium will be needed.

WHY A STADIUM ?
The benefits of having a stadium in a city are divided into following
aspects :
Financially

Revenue will be generated through the stadium via tickets and bookings
Stadium will boost the tourism of the city.
The regional economic growth with the stadium.
Politically :
The basic function of a stadium is to keep people happy and entertained,
and to unite the nations and people together through the medium of sport.
It will give chance to the locals to unite and rejoice with the people of other
places and nations .
Geographically :
The city will get a identity on a map by having a iconic stadium which will
also increase the brand value of it.
Socially:
Apart from uniting the nations a stadium will also increase the football fans
and the popularity of the sport.
The stadium will also help in motivating people.
Others :
Football will be the main activity in the stadium but it can also be used for
music concerts , public gatherings , public events and for the practice of
national ,state level teams and for training of school teams and junior
players .

WHY A FOOTBALL STADIUM SHOULD BE IN GREATER NOIDA ?

First of all greater Noida is one of the emerging national capitalized region
NCR of India and greater Noida has the first planned city developed and
aimed for sports which is Jaypee Sports City in sector 25.
It's 2,500 acres of area comprises various sports venues like international
standard cricket stadium, a hockey stadium and an even international
circuit for F1 races.

Buddha International Circuit for formula one races has already brought the
city into the limelight .Apart from this it also have ICC Cricket Stadium and
a Hockey Stadium. The only thing that is missing is the Football Stadium
which allow the game of football and is the most popular sport in the world.
The city will then turn in to the sports hub of India .

AIM :

Primary aim is to design an iconic world class stadium which fulfills the
International Standards of FIFA and to develop a relationship between a
stadium , sport , expectations and entertainment of the audience .
The stadium will be sustainable and environment friendly with the use of
energy efficient and energy conservation technologies and the use of such
materials .

OBJECTIVES :

International stadium with sate of art structure and world class services and
facilities.
Futuristic stadium with the use of modern building materials and latest
building technologies.
Monumental civil architecture by applying innovative ideas and concepts to
the form and the design of the stadium.

SCOPE OF WORK :

Stadium complex which will include stadium structure , landscape ,parking


and transportation.
Activity area which will include ground , dug outs and area for media and
team members .
Spectator stand with all necessary facilities , safety and securities along
with VIP spaces .
Restaurant ,bars and lounge and other administrative spaces .
And the overall services and circulation according and with respect to these
areas.
All this will be achieved keeping in mind the sustainability and the energy
efficiency of the structure with the use environment friendly technologies
such as water conservation ,rain water harvesting , solar lighting ,electricity
generation, passive heating and cooling ,displacement ventilation.

DESIGN BRIEF :

Designing a football stadium having capacity of 100,000 persons with


international standards ,world class services and facilities.
Requirements :
Stadium structure ,outdoor shell , playground and adjoining area , spectator
stands , restaurants , bar and lounges , administrative and management
areas .

Standard pitch measurements. Not all pitches are the same size, though
the preferred size for many professional teams' stadiums is 105 by 68
metres (115 yd 74 yd) with an area of 7,140 square metres (1.76 acres).

STANDARDS :

Seating Areas :
The necessary area for seating space is calculated as follows :
Width of seat =0.5 m
Overall depth = 0.8 m ( of which seat depth = 0.35 m , circulation = 0.45 m)
Seating and standing areas must be separated by fences. For every 750
seats an escape route is to be provided with a minimum width of 1 m.

Standing Areas :
Width of standing space = 0.5m
Depth of standing space = 0.4m

All the standards are referenced from Neuferts third edition.
