Come and be with fellow Christians as

we gather for Worship, Study, Fellowship,
Service and Outreach!
As you come, invite and bring
friends, relatives or neighbors
with you! Thank you very much.

That is precisely why John

Wesley once said, Aim at the
cheerfulness and joy of faith.
To know and to live within the
faith, hope and love of Jesus
Christ is joy unspeakable in the
face of the sometimes trials,
testings and temptations of this
life.
I look forward to worshiping
with you this Holy Week with and
through the joy of Jesus Christ.
Christ is Risen!...He is Risen,
Indeed!

Legacy ALIVE!
The legacy gift of Ken Faux
In 2006, Hill Church began a program called Legacy ALIVE! which was designed to encourage Hill Church members
to consider leaving gifts to the church upon their passing. This is the first in a series of newsletter articles showing what
good works result from legacy giving. In this months newsletter article, we are highlighting the life of Ken Faux. Some
of you may never have had the pleasure of meeting or knowing Ken Faux. He was a wonderful man who loved the Lord
and supported the work of Hill Church. This is his story.
Born on May 5, 1923, Ken was the son of Paul R. and C. Marie Gahagan Faux. He was a graduate of Butler High
School and served during World War II with the US Navy as a Naval Aviator. He graduated from Grove City College in
1948 with a B.S. in General Engineering. During his career, Ken worked for National Cash Register Company, Lear
Siegler Inc. and Phoenix Products Company, retiring as Director of Engineering from Phoenix Products Company in
1988. He holds a number of patents for his work at each of these companies. He married his first wife, Marilyn Joan
Hutchison Faux in 1947 and they had one son, Ken R. Faux, Jr., who presently resides in California. Marilyn passed
away in 1979.
While attending his 40th Butler High School class reunion, he renewed his friendship with Beatrice Bea Black and the
couple married in January 1984. Bea was a school teacher. Her father was a charter member of Hill Church. Upon Kens
retirement, he and Bea returned to Butler where they resided in Beas childhood home on East Pearl Street. They later
relocated to the Masonic Village in Sewickley but maintained their membership with Hill Church.
Ken served as an Elder for Hill Church. He was also past president of the Butler Kiwanis Club, the Butler Lodge #272
Free and Accepted Masons, the Valley of New Castle Scottish Rite, and the Syria Shrine. In addition to his activities
with these service organizations, Ken was a former member of the B.P.O.E. of Milwaukee, the Institute of Navigation
and the Illumination Engineering Society. Ken left this life to be with the Lord on October 20, 2013.
During his life, Ken was an active member and leader within Hill Church. Upon his passing, his legacy of love and
support for Hill Church and its ministries and programs continues. Ken left an unrestricted gift of $204,794 to Hill
Church. To date, the Session of Hill Church has authorized the use of Kens gift to support a number of projects
including an upgrade to the churchs sanctuary lighting, expansion and repair of the chancel, installation of new gutters
and the purchase of a copier for the church office. Because of Kens gift, Hill Church facilities will continue to be safe
and functional for years to come. The Session also authorized the use of Kens gift to support a portion of the general
operating costs of the church, thereby ensuring that important church ministries and programs were able to continue, as
planned, through all of 2014. Despite using Kens gift to support numerous church projects, a balance of $133,355
remains.
Ken was a kind, thoughtful, fun loving and intelligent man and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His love for
the Lord was strong, as was his love for the ministries and mission of Hill Church. His legacy is alive and well, and will
continue to be a blessing to the Hill Church family of faith for years to come.
Kens wife, Bea still resides at the Masonic Village and remains a member of Hill Church. She graciously agreed to
provide the information used in this newsletter article.
Presbyterian Women will again this April be asking for your baked goods for Meals on Wheels. Each year we try
to take them enough baked goods for a month. This April 12th (Sunday) we will have tables on the stage of the
Fellowship Hall to receive any baked goods such as cakes, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, pies, angel foods,
gingerbreads, etc. Please do not use nuts in your contributions. Monetary gifts will also be welcome, include

On May 10th and 17th, we will have a small crib that was donated to Presbyterian Women last year by Dick
and Maxine Beisheim in the church annex. We will appreciate your baby items, both handmade and those
that are purchased. Last year we received many lovely sweaters, caps, booties, and quilts that some of you
spent much time and love. They were greatly appreciated by the recipients. Monetary gifts are also greatly
appreciated. Make checks payable to Hill U.P. Church with a memo for PW Layette. Thank you for your
help in advance. We greatly appreciate your generosity.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT

Please continue to keep the Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the Bubiashie
Scholarship Committee, as well as the students, and Joshua Heikkila, the West Africa Liaison for the PC
(USA), in your prayers. As Nigeria continues under siege from the barbaric and unceasing terrorism of
Boko Haram these citizens also need our prayers.
On March 4th, we received this message from McWilson Atakro:
I hope you are all doing well. The Seminary is fine and life there is good. Let us give God the glory because I was nearly
killed.
I went to Ho from Peki with my car. On my return I had a little mechanical problem, therefore I stopped only for another
car to hit my back while I was in the car. The car surged forward till I applied the brakes. I give God the glory for saving
my life.
Now the Seminary has no car to work with since the official car is also broken down. Though I hate doing this, I cannot do
without any financial assistance to repair this car and for the work of the Seminary to continue. I shall therefore be grateful
if the Hill Church, individuals or Ghana Mission Committee could assist with any small amount for repairs.
Please keep me in your prayers since the challenges spiritually are mounting.
Blessings,
Koku.
The Task Force is pondering an appropriate response to this request.

Forward In Faith Task Force Update

The Forward in Faith Task Force was created by the Session to help Hill Church develop a long range
operational plan that balances ministry growth and development with the financial, volunteer and personnel
resources available to the church. At its March meeting the Session approved the following people to serve on
the Forward in Faith Task Force: Anne Miller, Laraine McCrea, Tommy Walters, Pat Brennen, Dennis Hawk,
Patti Donaldson, Cathy Zarnick, Brandon Wentling, Barb Graham, Peg Dumbaugh and the Rev. Clark Sawyer.
Louise Evans was appointed clerk and historian for the Task Force. An open position remains to be filled. The
first meeting of the Forward in Faith Task Force was scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2015 at 7:00pm in the
Hall Memorial Lounge. During the months of March, April and May the Task Force will be connecting with
members of the congregation in a number of ways. Please feel free to talk with any of the Task Force
members listed above or with any member of Session if you have any questions related to the Forward in Faith
long range planning process.
Each year, the quilters of Hill Presbyterian Church make over 100 lap robes and
baby quilts to give to those in need. As part of their global mission, many of these
quilts are sent with Margie (McGuirk) Vogt on medical missions to Central
America. The Hill UP quilts have found homes in Mexico, Dominican Republic,
Belize, Honduras and Panama. This year a batch of quilts will be going to
Santiago Panama in collaboration with the Iglesia Evangelica Metodista de
Panama in the Veraguas region (central part of the country). This new church, started by 40 members is actively
growing, with many young families in a very impoverished areas. In a nearby community visited last year, the
children of the church were dancing with the quilts as capes, while the older women quickly wrapped them
around their legs for comfort and warmth on the cold mornings. The quilts are a true gift and mission from the
mothers and grandmothers of Hill UP to their sisters in Christ - the mothers and grandmothers in Santiago.
Thanks to Kathy Young who knew of my medical mission trips and asked me one day what she could do to
help. She came up with the idea of the quilts. Thanks to her and all the quilters who put so much time into this
project.
From Margie Vogt
Sew what??? Sew...you dont really know how to sew...thats okay, the Hill Quilters always welcome new
helpers! The Hill Quilters meet the first Friday of each month in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 a.m.

Every year Hill Church is asked to support the work of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery, the Synod of the Trinity
and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA. This support is made through a per-capita
assessment of church members. This assessment has been used for over 150 years to fund the essential work of
the Presbyterian Church.
As we have done in past years, we are inviting members to the Hill Church family of faith to contribute to the
support of the shared work of the Presbyterian Church USA. The per-capita assessment for 2015 is $39.93 per
member which includes all those who have been baptized and have made their profession of faith. For example,
a single member would contribute $39.93, a couple who are both members would contribute $79.86, a couple
with one confirmed child would contribute $119.79 and so on.
For your convenience in making this offering, a special blue envelope has been included in your regular box of
envelopes, appearing between the January 25th and the February 1st envelopes. Or you
may mark the memo line of your check per-capita and this offering will be properly
credited to your giving statement.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support.
E-Mail from Barry and Shelly Dawson received 3/12/15
Greetings to you from Miri, East Malaysia (on Borneo)!
We are here to visit some early childhood learning centers. On Saturday we will be
traveling to a more remote village (4-hour boat ride on the river) and then stay
overnight. Once we return and process what we learn, there will be more stories to tell.
Bethany is with us now. She had to come to Kuala Lumpur to get a new visa for
Thailand. She is doing an internship in Bangkok, and getting ready to make a decision by the end of this month
about where she will be going to graduate school in the fall.
Grace and peace,
Barry & Shelly
