ThisscenarioandFixesareapplicableonlyifyouareusingjustanormalquerytransform
topulltheSAPtablerecordsinBODSstagingtables.

Inanormalscenario,wepulltheSAPtablefromthedatastoreandmakeitasasource
postpost
andaquerytransformtotransfertherequiredfieldstothetargettable.Ifyoudouble
clicktheSAPtablewhichyouhavepulledinsidethedesignerareayoucanseeacheck
boxExecuteinbackground(batch)unchecked.ThankstoDirkvenkenonpointing
thisout.

WhenthetableextractionjobisexecutedinBODS,whathappensinSAPis,itwillbe
executedinoneoftheapplicationservers(Ifyouhavemany)Workprocesses.Execute
transactionSM51inSAPanddoubleclickontheappserversandcheckontheactivework
processesusingtheBODSsystemuserIDasafiltertoseewhatoperationisgetting
carriedout.

Program/BODS/*willbeexecutedforextractingthedatafromSAP,butthemainpoint
tonotehereisSAPwillexecutethisprocesses,i.e.thistableextractionprocess
throughadialogueworkprocess.Dialogueworkprocessinfinewhenthedata
volumeisminimumandforrelativelysmallertables.Butitsalwaysadvisabletogowith
thebackgroundprocess,Ratherthanthedialogueoneiftheoperationisgoingtobe
resourceintensiveandhighdatavolumeoperations.

Duetothis,largetableslikeBSEG,EDIDC,EDIDS,etc.willrunforthelongertimeorwill
beterminatedwithanABAPdumporcoredumpinBODS.(Unlessyouhavelogically
separatedthedataextractionbasedonmultiplefiltersforsametableindifferentquery
transformsandfinallymergingthemintoasingletable,thiscouldbeapainwhereyour
BODSjobmightgoforchangesfrequentlywhenthefiltersneedstobemodified.)

Inordertomakethisextractionruninthebackgroundprocessesweneedtomarkthe
checkboxExecuteinbackground(Batch).Onceyoucheckthisandreexecutethejob,
youmayseethiserrorintheBODSjoblogRFC_ABAP_RUNTIME_FAILURE
