Physically & Academically Fit
On Janurary 18th, 2010, Roscommon Area School Staff were empowered by the speech of Dr. JoAnne
Owens-Nauslar. "Dr. Jo" is a popular health and fitness speaker who has been one of the country’s most
vocal personalities on the issues of physical activity. She endeavors to help every American understand, but
also enjoy the benefits of healthy active living. She discussed the importance of taking care of ourselves,
serving as role models to students, and the value of physical activity in academic success. “Dr. Jo” discussed
the importance of taking a break in activity every “nine minutes.” Our brains need a break in activity to fully
comprehend what we are engaged in at that time. As I take this challenge, I also encourage everyone else to
take the nine minute challenge with your children. Have them stop and march
around the living room or do ten jumping jacks, this might just add a little fun to
homework time while helping to keep our children academically and physically
motivated and engaged.”

The Hawaiian Luau-PTO Spring Carnival

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Please join us for a fun Saturday, March 20th from 11:00 AM— 2:00 PM.
Our PTO “Spring Hawaiian Carnival” will be held at Roscommon Elementary
School.
Lots of fun activities and games are planned throughout the school during the three
hours of the carnival. We will have games set up in classrooms for all the children
and their families to enjoy. The fun will keep you busy for hours! We will have
bingo, a cakewalk, hula dancing, a duck pond, tattoos, a book sale, a sucker pull
and a giant inflatable slide to name just a few. We will have a ticket presale prior to
the carnival, 5/$1.00 or 4/$1.00 at the door. Also, we will have great prizes.
So, mark your calendars and don’t miss the fun. Dress Hawaiian and escape the
cold for awhile, if only in your minds. The children will have a spirit day on Friday,
March 19th, where they can dress Hawaiian for school that day.

LABELS CONTEST
Just a reminder that the labels contest is still under way and running until February 19th. PTO is hoping that
labels and box tops will continue coming in from all classrooms. This program has allowed us to purchase
basketballs, footballs, soccer balls and holding carts.
Remember that Campbell’s wants only the UPC bar code, NOT the front label as in the past. “Spartan” needs
the name and bar code, they will send us $.02 per UPC as cash for our school.
If you would like to volunteer your time with the labels contest, please contact Monica Lytle at 989-821-4070.
Thanks for your support!
