OUR TEACHING METHOD
New York Language Center uses a practical approach to teaching our students English. Our highly conversational
classes emphasize oral fluency as a major goal. From the very first class at even the basic level, students will use
English in a practical and realistic way. We believe that the ability to ask questions is a critical skill and we
encourage active participation and natural production of language forms. In order to learn English, the language
must become spontaneous. All classes include realistic practice in real life situations. Translation is not allowed.
Many students who have studied English in their home countries know the language passively but cannot use it.
We try to break that barrier.
Our instructors have specific goals for each week. These goals encompass what students can do at the end of the
lesson. Oral and written assessments allow students to gauge their achievement.
AMERICAN ENGLISH INTENSIVE PROGRAM (ILP) Suitable for F-1 Visa holders
Integrated Skills -12 levels
Course Length-8 weeks per Level
Course Meetings-20 lessons per week
This course is suitable for visitors and students who live in New York Both the Integrated Skills Program as well as
the Specialized English Program are available as semi-intensive programs.
Specialized English Prgram (Business, Critical Thinking, Writing, TOEFL ibt)
Based on the students current level, students will move through a series of complementary courses that include
pronunciation, grammar practice, idioms, writing, academic writing, phrasal verbs, American culture, business
communications, reading and academic reading.
ESL/EFL SEMI INTENSIVE PROGRAM
Course Length- 8 weeks per course

PART TIME PROGRAM
Course Length- 8 weeks per course
Course Meetings- 5 or 10 lessons per week
Students may choose Integrated Skills or an ESL Skills Focus class for those who have limited time. Part time
programs are also available in evenings and weekends for a longer course length.
