Thursday 22nd
October
Mrs Tucker was very keen to share this lovely picture of the
children enjoying their singing this week. It is always lovely to
hear music and singing through the school on a daily basis.
Thoughts from the week
I really cannot believe that the first half
term of the year has passed already.
Its a sign of being busy when time
passes so quickly - so it may be that!
As sta, we are delighted with the
progress that the children have made
in their new classes. Each of the KS1
and KS2 classes are now being taught
from a new national curriculum; you
may be aware that the expectations
have risen quite sharply from the old
curriculum.
This has proven quite a step up for
some children and I know that some
are finding parts of the work hard. It is
important that, as a school, we always
maintain high expectations and
aspirations for the children but that we
balance this with an understanding
that children learn at dierent paces
and in dierent ways. Please be
assured that we are very much trying
to meet the needs of individual
children whilst at the same time trying
to deliver a challenging (and full)
curriculum. I would encourage you to
talk to teachers at parents evenings
or any other time if you have any
concerns. Sometimes the
conversation itself is enough to raise
awareness and this can help.
A new assessment system is being
developed in school that works
without levels. This is very much
underpinned with teachers having a
clear understanding of dierent parts
of the curriculum and making
professional judgments. We will be in
a position to tell you how the children
are working through the curriculum
journey for their year group at
parents evenings next month.
We will create an information sheet to
help you understand how we are
making assessments and how these
will be reported to you so you have a
clear understanding of their progress.
English Information Evening
for Reception and KS1
Parents (7.00pm)
I highly recommend this information
evening - it will be an hour or so
very well spent finding out about
how reading and phonics is taught
in the Reception and Key Stage 1
classes.

Notice
Catherine Cole still has some
spaces on her Creatures and
Critters Club which is due to
start on Thursday 5th November.
Catherine will be presenting a
special assembly after the holiday
and any interested children are
welcome to join the club. More
details after the holiday.
Zebra crossing - there have been
reports of cars not stopping, even
when children are at the edge of
the crossing. Please be extra
careful when using the crossing.
We will remind the children in
school about the need for road
safety, especially now it starts to
get darker, earlier.
THE GARDENING CLUB NEEDS
YOUR HELP! Do you have any
unwanted wheel barrows,
ladders,plates, plant pots, cups
and saucers or beaded jewellery?
If so, please send them in to us as
next half term we will be
decorating plant pots ready for
planting our flowers in the spring
term. Many thanks from Mrs
Gatiss and the Gardening Club.
New Reception Play House
After several years of use, the old
playhouse had fallen into dis-repair.
Thanks to your donations, through the
PTA, we have built a new playhouse which
was ocially opened today (by Mr
Priddey!).
This is a deluxe model, with lots of space
for all the family, including an upstairs area!
We hope the children will enjoy using the
playhouse for many years as part of the
outdoor provision.
