Ultra High-molecular-weight polyethylenes (UHMWPE) have
been defined by ASTM as those "linear polyethylenes which
have a relative viscosity of 2.3 or greater, at a solution concentration of 0,05%, at 135 degrees Celsius, in decahydronapthalene,' ,
GOOD ELECTRICAL
PROPERTIE;S: Good as an electrical
insulator: volume resistivity is greater than 1016ohm-cm, and is
dialectric constant is 2.30 at 106 Hz and 2.34 at 100 Hz.
EASILY MACHINED:
Wood or metal working machines can
be used to saw, turn, plane, drill, pierce, or mill.
Nominal weight average molecular weight is 3 million or
higher, and grades are available from 3 to 7 million molecular
weight. By contrast, normal HDPE resins have molecular
weights in the range of 200,000 to 400,000.
UHMWPE has chemical, electrical, and other physical attributes quite similar to those of HDPE, but the extremely high
molecular weight gives it unique abrasion resistance, impact
strength, and special processing characteristics.
It is available in plates, sheets. blocks, billets, rod, tubes, and
numerous profiles using compression molding or ram extrusion
techniques. The resin is unsurpassedby any material, with the
exception of certain filled UHMW formulations, when wear
resistance, toughness, chemical inertness, low coefficient of friction, and self-lubrication characteristics are required.
Ten excellent reasonsto consider UHMW for critical applications are:
HIGH ABRASION RESISTANCE: resists extreme sliding
abrasion. Actual case studies show it will outwear steel 4 to 6
times.

Flow Promotion Surfaces
Tivar ultrahigh molecular weight
polyethylene (UHMW) provides
answers for wear and friction in
components used in unit conveying
and for moving wet, sticky, or fine
materials in hoppers and chutes.
Whether you're rice bran through
chutes and hoppers, pizza dough
through augers, or poultry through
freezer systems, TIVAR UHMW
products can help provide smooth,
predictable operations.
Engineered with the highest molecular weight available, TIVAR
delivers the plastic properties needed in the food processing industry.
Self-lubricating, even at -300 C,
TIVAR's low coefficient of friction
makes the perfect sliding surface for
sticky, fine, hard-to-move bulk materials. A high resistance to corrosive
chemicals and high resistance to
impact shock enable TIVAR to withstand serious abuse. And because it
fights sliding abrasion so well,
11VARis a natural choice to use for
component parts, wear strips and
slide plates; anywhere sliding wear
cannot be tolerated.
So far we've discussed the four
key characteristics of TIVAR: Flow
Promotion, Abrasion Resistance,
Corrosion Resistance and Shock
Strength. The combination of these,
its light weight (a 3/8" X 48" X 120"
sheet weighs only 75 pounds), high
dielectric strength for excellent electrical insulation properties, ease of
fabrication and overall low cost
compared to other metals, ceramics
and polymers make TIVAR the ideal
material for many demanding
aoolications.
These superior polymers set the standard of excellence in the
industry offering the highest molecular weight available. 11VAR1000 and TIVAR-1000 Recycled demonstrate their versatility in
providing special solutions to specific problems.
