A successful blend of beauty and

The highly styled character of a

conceal the lact that it is a power{ul

High Visibility lllumination
been made an its optical design lor the
sake of appearance. As illustrated in
Figure 1 below, every Pericline provides: 1)Sharp cutoff of fixture brightness at normal viewing angles for
increased comfort, visibility. and control
of light trespass; 2) High angle, high
glare free, uniforn illunination

Sharp cutolf optical systen produces
rellector optical syslem (figurc 2) lhat
precisely distributes light over wide
areas. Maximum intensities strike the
ground at approximately 2314 times the
luminaire mounting height. The conventronal "hot spot" beneath the luminaire
is redistributed to provide increased
light between poles. Above 76o. the
beam of Iight sharply diminishes, leav
ing the luminaire glare free. This sharp
cutoff results lrom Moldcast's patented
Shary Cut\ff ledge, which is unique to the
Moldcast Pericline Series, rendering all
imitation Pericline units inferior in terms
of sharp cutoff. ln an outdoor environment. Iight which is produced at angles
above 76o will enter normal viewing
angles, causing disabling brightness.
This area above 760 trom vertical represents the glare zone. However, in order
to provrde the most effrcient lumrnaire
spacing while maintaining glare control,
a luminaire must produce peak candlepower as close to this 76o cutofl point
as possible. Moldcast has always used
the striclest criteria in the outdoor
lighting industry for measuring cutoff
performance, embodied in our 1O,/1O
theory of sharp cutoff, This defrnitron
requires peak candlepower to be no
more than 1Oo below the sharp cutoff
point, and sharp cutoff to be a reduction
of intensity to less than 1O percent of
peak candlepower at any angle in the
glare zone.

energy elficient H.l.D. lamps

spacing Ior systems energy efficiency;
3) Controlled, uniform light drstribution ensuring excellent maximum/
minimum uniformity ratios which
contributes to outstanding systems
visibility.

The nighttine envir1nnent created
provides confoft and security
The outstanding glare control and
unjform lig ht distribution characteristics
ol the Pericline Series optical system
combine to produce extremely high
visibility. This ability to see clearly
within a comlortable environment
contributes to security; and of equal
imporlance, to one's leeling of security.
The photographic compatison (Figurc 3)
dramatically illustrates the glare control
effectiveness of the Pericline Sefies
opticalsystem.

Choice of distributions
provides dnign flexibility
ln addition to the standard symmetrical
distribution, the Pericline Series is
available in a choice of three optional
distributions as followsi
1. Asymmetrical (ASY Option)
2. "Short" House Side Cutoff {C45
Option)
3. "Full" House Side CutofI (C90 Option)
The optional distributions are achieved
lhrough the use of snap in distnbution
modifying elements which are con
cealed from view by the luminaire s
upper housing. Note the outstanding
house side cuto{{ and the absence of
visible cutof{ hardware in the
photographic compatison (Figurc 4).

0rnamental Pole
Seies
PC 6000
As a companion piece to the Traditional
and Victorian Pericline, this ornamental
pole series offers an authentic
appearance ideally suited to city
restorations, parks and plazas. Made oJ
filament wound fiberglass, its surface
and Jinish replicate cast iron yet it
provides far lower initial cost and
ongoing maintenance economy due to
its inherent corrosion resistance.
The historic charm of a Traditional or
Victorian Pericline lu minaire mounted
on Moldcast's ornamental pole is
captured after dark by its low glare, gas
light appearance. S uperior lighting
performance, produced by the Pericline
optical system, makes these units an
excellent choice for any project in which
modern vehicular and pedestrian traflic
is to coexist with an earlier period
setting.

and functional needs of a site with illumrnation sharply cut off at or near the property
Area lighting luminaires producing a broad
throw of illumination can occasionally cause
problems because of light trespassing onto
neighboring properties. The Pericline,
through its patented opticalsystem, has the
unique ability to precisely cut short the throw
of light in any given direction without
affectjng the distribution in other areas and
without changing the daytime appearance of
the luminaire. This feature allows poles to be
freely posrtioned as requrred by the aslhetic

Where poles are to be positioned right at the
property line, the "Full" House Side Cutoff

light on one side of the pole (as shown in the
photometric chart to raght below). Other
cutoff patterns are available on special order.
Consult the factory for information.
Both House Side Cutoffs, C45 and C90, are

are not visible from outside the luminaire.

Two "House Side Cutoff" distributions are
offered as options with all Pericline modelsThe "Short" House Side Cutoff (C45i stops
the throw of light on one side of the
luminaire at approximately 172 mounting
heights out Jrom the base of the pole (see
