WORK HISTORY
2008 - 2010: Freelance Copywriter
I’ve recently created campaigns and websites for a range of clients including Talk Talk, Sony, Debenhams and Morrisons. Filling in for the Creative Director at Steel I led major ATL brand campaigns for SeaFrance and Greggs. I’ve also worked on various direct marketing campaigns and am familiar with SEO. I write features for the Guardian on technology and the environment.
2004 - 2007: Student and Adventurer
I took a set of distance learning courses with Berkeley and Stanford in Psychology and Earth System Science. I also travelled, wrote a screenplay and made a short film with money from Working Title films.
2002 – 2003: Copywriter, Spring London (Leo Burnett)
I created a variety of interactive TV promos and branded games for clients including MTV, Travis, So Solid Crew and Jodie Lee (Independiente Records). I also developed a number of branded interactive TV formats in genres such as music and cooking.
2000 - 2001: Head of Content, PlayJam
I built the website then became involved in rebranding PlayJam on Sky and cable TV as a laddish games channel. I wrote channel and promo copy. I championed redesigns for many games, introducing new titles and characters. I commissioned cartoons for the website. I led the channel design and launch for cable TV. PlayJam was subsequently sold to OpenTV and is still one of the most popular TV game channels in the UK, US and France. 1999 – 2000: Copywriter, Lateral Conceptual copywriter creating sites and ads for key clients including Levi’s, Mars, Nationwide, Boddingtons, Sega, EMI and Pathe. My campaign for Levi’s Engineered Jeans won awards for it’s creative use of Yahoo’s Error: 404 pages. Our Levi’s Twisted site won multiple creative awards and established Levi’s as a major online brand presence. I also led the build of two ecommerce sites while at the company.
1999: Copywriter, Hard Reality (Leo Burnett)
I did some work for Nesquik and Kellogg’s but my main focus was on branding and site copy for a new toll-free ISP called Freedom Net, which unfortunately never launched.
1998: Creative Lead, Agency.com
Working in a team with the Creative Director we created one of the first interactive TV ads. The British Airways ‘Escape’ spot won a One Show Interactive award. I was creative lead on sites and ads for Sanpro and Prudential.
1997 - 1998: Online Development Manager, Virgin Interactive
As part of the rebranding of this top 10 games publisher I created a new, sexy and accessible pan-European site and ads to support it. I was also responsible for the online gaming strategy in Europe.
1996 - 1997: Launch Producer, Virgin Net
Heading up the Games and Education channels for the launch of the consumer-friendly ISP, I defined the style, structure and coordinated with content partners. I also helped produce the Health channel.
1994 - 1996: Journalist, the Guardian & GQ
I was a staff writer at the Guardian aged 19. I was then a Contributing Editor at GQ magazine writing features on technology and culture. I also wrote for Time Out and Esquire. At the Guardian I created some of their first websites, as well as writing for the paper. Staff writer on the launch of Wired UK.
