Mayan Jade: Art, Tools, and Trade

The ancient Mayan civilization valued jade and used it to create important tools and religious objects. They worked primarily with jadeite since nephrite was unavailable in their region of Mesoamerica. Jade held more significance than gold in Mayan society and was carved into weapons, armor, portraits, and sculptures.
