Many of the directions the actors have to take on stage may not be on this script, but I
have them prepared. The songs can be changed. These are just suggestions. There is
plenty of room to add on people. Just let me know.
The idea was that each story be for each grade level (High School. Middle School.
Elementary School.) We can get rid of a story or two, or arrange it differently.
(The skit begins with a person on a chair or rocking chair, and a book or bible. He
says…)
Narrator: Namascarram my fellow brothers and sisters. Today, I’m here to tell you
about the many stories that Jesus has told us, in order to show us an everyday lesson. The
stories, otherwise, known as parables, helped us to learn lessons that live with us for the
rest of our lives. Lets start off with a very popular one. One of my favorites, the Parable
of the Prodigal Son.
The narrator then takes his chair and walks off the stage. Then, a group of 4-5 workers
come in, with little turban and folded moondas. They all have a shovel, or axe, or some
type of farming tool. The song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRlnKqNmmqo) plays
for a short while.
Worker 1: Indammay! This field is sooo much work.
Worker 2: Ente back-a verruno (My back is hurting)
Worker 1: Look at the owner’s sons. The younger one is so hard working. Pavam!
Worker 2: I know! And look at the older boy…just slacking off. Sho!
Older Boy: (sings a bit) Monnu? You know what? I don’t have to live here on this
“dump”. our father is so rich. We can just simply ask him for some wealth and prosper off
of that! Think it is a good idea?
Younger boy: Chetan, just work. Echachin (Father) is coming okay? Don’t upset him.
The father, wearing clean, proper clothes, walks in.
Father: Mackalay (kids), how is work going? Hot day?
Younger boy: Very much Echachin.
Father: How about you too? Doing fine?
Wokers: Good! Couldn’t be better!
Older boy: (says childish, trying to persuade his father) Papaaa. Can I ask something?
Father: Go ahead monay!
Older boy: Do you think, that maybe, JUST maybe, you could divide the property,
and give me a portion of the wealth?
Father: But monay…this is my land. Is it necessary for me to do this?
Older boy: Please Echachin!
Father: Okay monay. But be careful.
Older boy: Yeah yeah, sherri, okay.
Narrator: voice only Soon afterwards, the elder son gathered all he had there, and
took a journey off from the farm and went to live on his own. With all the new wealth he
acquired, he began living a riotous lifestyle. He began to drink heavily (pauses to show
that the song is drunk and singing songs with other people), wasting money, (shows the
son wasting money carelessly), and soon, he had nothing (the son’s friends leave him and
the son is left alone on the stage.) To make matters worse, a famine soon swept the area
that he was in.
Older boy: sad or crying There is nothing to eat. I’m alone…with no money. What on
Earth can I do (crys a bit). I guess… I could go work on someone’s land for some money.
At least I’ll have somewhere to stay.
Narrator The boy took a job feeding pigs. He soon began to realize what he was
doing wasn’t worth it at all.
Older boy: look at these pigs, they get more food than me. I wish I had something
atleast. Even the workers in my father’s house get food for working. I’m his SON and
I’m here, starving. looks sad There is only one thing I can do. I can go to my father’s
house and beg him for his mercy. Exit’s the stage
Narrator So the son began his journey back home. Meanwhile, on the farm, his
father begins to show how much he misses his son.
Father: (song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYUd28xJRs8 plays in the
background) Ente mone. How much I miss him. I would do anything to see him again.
Older boy enters the stage. He looks at his dad. The dad comes and hugs the son.
Then, the son asks: Papa…I have sinned against heaven, and before you, and am no more
worthy to be called your son: make me as one of your hired servants.
Father: Intha nee paranay? (what are you saying) (he looks off into the audience
and asks) Da Hydroseay! Get the best clothes and shoes for my son. Chacko! Go kill the
fattest cow we have. We will eat and celebrate, for my son, who was dead, is now alive.
He was lost, and is now found! Happy music begins to play
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VKa-cglIkc)
The dad guides the son until he leaves the stage, but the dad stays. The younger son
enters.
Narrator The younger son entered, and to his surprise, the whole house was being
decorated.
A servant walks in and bumps into the son
Younger son: Hey Chacko, whats going on?
Worker: Well, your brother has come home. Your dad killed the fattest calf and
ordered a celebration to go on. he continues to walk away, as the son seems mad
Younger son: How is this possible. Ee manishu (this guy). Where is father. Papa! Papa!
Father: Monay, there you are. Come, we are having a big party for chetan. He has
come home!
Younger son: upset Papa. I served you for so many years with obedience. Never have
you killed a calf or held a party this grand for me. But all of a sudden, this guy, who
wasted all of your money, comes home and he gets the royal VIP treatment. Why Papa?
Father: Monay, you are always with me. Everything that I have, is yours. It was
necessary that celebrate, and be glad: for your brother was dead, and is alive again; and
was lost, and is found. Vah monay. (come son) lets go.
They leave the stage, and the narrator comes back with a chair and talks to the audience
again
Narrator: Wow. Stories like this, really help us to learn more about God’s word, and
about everyday life lessons. Along with the Parable of the Prodigal Son, the Gospel
According to Luke has another story that teaches us the right thing to do. In the Parable
of the Good Samaritan, Jesus teaches us that we should help those in need.
He leaves the stage and a man begins to walk across the stage.
Narrator Once there was a man who left from Jerusalem and was traveling to
Jericho. During his journey, some unexpected things occurred.
Travler: He just needs to be walking, he could be singing, skipping, humming a
tune, or something else.
A group of people appear and huddle and whipser to one another
Robber 1: Look at that guy. He seems like a foreigner.
Robber 2: Yeah. He also looks like he has a lot to offer, if you know what I mean
wink
Robber 3: Haha yeah! He can work with us, and we can go buy a house on the Jersey
Shore. And we can be friends. And we can live on the shores of I and go around and have
fun. Kinda like that TV show right?
Robber 2: NO dummy! I meant, we can go rob him
Robber 3: Oh…we could do that too
Robber 2: Sigh, lets just go
Here the robbers go and rob the traveler. They leave with what ever they can get. The
traveler is then injured and left to die.
Narrator: The guy was left to die. Soon, some one came by the injured man, (shows
someone walking by the man. He pauses and looks, but continues to walk by) yet, gave
him no attention. Next, another person walked by. This time, the traveller asks him for
help…
Traveler: Sir, excuse me…
Rich Guy: Marranika da! (Move away!) Go get HELP!
Narrator: Sadly, this didn’t work either. Lastly, one Samaritan came by and noticed
the beaten traveler.
Samaritan: Ente Ammay! (oh my mother!) Monay, are you okay? Your bleeding, let
me help you. (if it’s a woman, then play http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=UcCWrNSTV30. If it’s a man, then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9N9ZSrx1iw or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO3xRRvR6RQ) (the Samaritan applies bandages and
gives the traveler something to eat, like bread or cookies)
Narrator The Samaritan then took the traveler to a local inn
**Some one then comes and brings in a stand that says INN. If this is too much to do
on the stage, the story can end with the Samaritan helping the traveler.**
The traveler lays in the bed and the Samaritan goes to the Inn Keeper
Samaritan: Here is $50. Take care of him, and if you need more money to take care of
him, when I come again, I will repay you.
The scene is taken down and the narrator enters again.
Narrator: This is the acts of kindness that we should see everyday. This famous
parable is used in everyday society. When we go down the street, we see people helping
others in need. They even named the law that protects these helper, The Good Samaritan
Law. A last story that we can recall, deals with a sower and some seeds. This parable
helps us better understand the word of the Lord.
**This story is intended for the little kids from elementary school**
Narrator: There once was a sower who had some seeds. One day, he went out was
placed some seeds in various places. For some seeds, he put it on the way-side.
Unfortunately, birds came by and devoured them up. For another portion of seeds, they
fell into stony places without much soil. Once they grew, the sun scorched the weak
flowers, wince they had no root. Some seeds fell into weeds. Those were choked once
they grew, can fell to the ground. The sower placed the rest into good soil. Here, they
plants grew, and produced so much fruit, you could make gallons of fruit salad. Jesus
wanted to show that like the seeds, the Word was effected the same way. Sometimes the
word is heard with no affection, sometimes just for external glory, sometimes they don’t
remove themselves from evil, but sometimes, the Word of God is heard with devout
affection and respect.
For this skit, there are children that represent the way-side, stony places, thorns, and the
good ground. One person will throw seeds, and the children will reenact according to
what the narrator says. At the end, Jesus or someone reading the bible, can come and
read or speak the Word of God. All the representatives will act again according to what
the narrator says. After the whole thing is said, the stage is cleared and the narrator
comes on by himself.
Narrator: As you can see, the many parables that Jesus used in the Bible, helped us
to form our Christian lives. We learn life lessons that stay with us forever and help us
build our faith. Jesus tells us, that he used parables because…
“ ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not
perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their
ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’
But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I
say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not
see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it" Mathew 13:14-17
This last paragraph can be changed.
