PRE4122 Exercise No. 4 Imperfections in Solids

This document contains an assignment on imperfections in solids given to mechanical engineering students. It includes 4 questions asking students to: 1) Define different types of point defects and discuss them briefly. 2) Calculate vacancy fractions and numbers in various materials at different temperatures. 3) Define stoichiometry, and explain defects that could form in copper oxide to maintain charge neutrality under reducing conditions. 4) Identify which elements would form different types of solid solutions with copper based on their properties, and calculate the atom percent of a zinc-copper alloy given the weight percentages.
