On the day of your GD/PI:
1. Make sure you are properly dressed and are looking tidy.
Men: Light colored shirts (with or without blazer), trousers, and clean shaven with neatly polished shoes
Women: Salwar suits, Sarees or formal shirts & trousers
2. Make sure you carry all documents with you. Check and recheck. There have been instances
where people have been rejected due to their failure to bring a particular document.
3. Make sure you reach well in advance. Plan for contingency. Arrive at least an hour early.
4. Have a proper breakfast and good sleep the day before.
5. Finally, bring confidence with you!

GD/PI related:
1) What would be the pattern of written ability test?
a. Please refer to the GD/PI kit. You will be given a topic on the test on which you will have to write your
opinion. Your ability to build perspective and the quality of your communication skills are the main
factors judged. Post this; you will have to present these views in a group discussion.
2) Can one get his/her interview date rescheduled?
a. It cannot be guaranteed but in case of a clash with a select other IIMs or some other genuine reason,
the request might be considered. The request has to be proceeded to the Admissions Office and their
decision would be the final one.
3) Whether GD/PI are taken category wise or mixed?
a. The GDs are held in a mixed group. However, ABM call getters have a separate GD/PI.
4) How can an interview be diverted to ones comfortable area?
a. This can be done by first setting the pace of the interview right at the beginning when one is asked
about himself/herself. It can also be done by highlighting and talking about your strengths more than
your weaknesses.
5) Is it possible to lead the interview?
a. Yes. But its more of a chance. Dont try to be aggressive.
6) How to justify poor academic performance in the past?
a. You need to have concrete answers lined up. The interviewers are looking at your ability to hold your
own under pressure. Besides this, if you have well extracurricular, you can use that to your
advantage.

7) How to go about HR answers? Are they important?
a. HR answers are very important. Its mostly profile dependent. Try to get guidance on it from your
mentors.
8) How to tackle questions of which IIM one will choose in case of multiple converts?
a. Be honest. Choose the best call you have.
9) What kind of questions to expect in ones interview?
a. It can be HR as well as technical. They may ask questions from the GD you attended before or might
be about some current topic. So prepare for the worst, expect the best.
10) Case based GD or current topic or abstract topic for GDs?
a. IIM Lucknow GDs have mostly been abstract topic based. But they may change it any year. So prepare
for all types. If your slot is after some other people then you will get an idea. But that will be very late.
So prepare for all types.
11) How to tackle a stress interview?
a. There have been many instances where candidates have been subjected to stress. The best strategy is
just to keep calm and admit what you do not know. Try to maintain a logical flow of thought at all times.

ABM Related:
1) In case of call for both PGP and ABM, will the call getter have different interviews?
a. You will have to give a combined interview.
2) How much is ABM different from the normal PGP course?
a. ABM electives are different from the normal PGP course mainly in second year. ABM courses are
taught with a focus on rural perspective. It basically teaches you the management of an agro-based
enterprise. As far as the admission process is concerned, ABM admissions have no weightage for work
experience but instead have double the weightage given to graduation profile. Till now, the placement
procedures are common for both PGP and ABM courses with only a few companies either not allowing
ABM or coming only for ABM profile.
3) What to do if one gets a call from both PGP and ABM?
a. This would basically be a personal choice. If you want to enter/start any agro-based/food industry,
ABM might be the right choice for you. You can have a look at how are the two courses different and
then make a choice as per your ambitions and future plans.
4) How to go about the combined PGP and ABM interview?
a. Get in touch with your mentor, so that you can have lengthy discussions with him/her.
5) Should I be keen on going for ABM?
a. The answer would be dependent on you. But the industry perception of ABM is different from than
the student perception. The ABM candidates would have a wide range of career options. (Check out

1) Will the provisional degree certificate do in place of original?
a. You may need to explain to the panel why the original is not there. It is highly recommended that you
try to get the original one on time.
2) Will our first and last pay slip suffice?
a. Yes, it should. However, you should also try to produce experience certificates of previous
employers.
3) Can I show my last month and first month pay slip instead of an experience certificate?
a. We think you can. But we had to submit them when we joined the institute anyways.
4) Is it good if one carries ones CV with him/her?
a. Yes
Selection Criteria:
1) What is the weight age given to extra-curricular activities in the personal data form? Is it good- toHave or must-have?
a. There is no concrete weight age assigned to extracurricular activities. While it always good to have
them, it is not a very big disadvantage.
2) Is year gap in ones career something to be worried about?
a. There is no need to worry as there are several students at IIM L who have made it even after
having a long break in their career. You will have to be prepared to answer questions like - "why
did you quit your job", "do you think you could not have prepared for CAT while doing the job",
"What have you been doing besides preparing for CAT after leaving your job".

3) How important are academics if one has a lot of work experience?
a. Not really. Its more what you did in work that matters. Moreover, you are expected to be clearer
about future goals. But one should also be prepared to answer questions based on two three subjects
that you like to be on the safer side.
4) How important is the CAT percentile in the final conversion policy? What is the criterion for selection
process?

5) What is the basis for determination of quality of work-ex and academic qualifications?
a. Quality of work ex depends on the type of role you performed. Managerial roles are preferred. The
admission committee will be interested in understanding your role/responsibility/contribution to the
organization you worked for irrespective of the size or stature of the organization. People have made it
to IIM L even after working with start-ups and lesser known firms. They will try and assess your
understanding of the business of the organization/industry you worked for. Academic qualifications are
more to do with consistency and anyway the people who get calls are the ones with good academic
scores.
6) How important is diversity to IIM Lucknow?
a. While IIM Lucknow encourages diversity, it would only take in those candidates who would do well in
the GD PI stage. So complacency should be avoided at all costs.
