Guidance for Inspection & Maintenance of Safety Equipment
This guide is intended for the ship owners, superintendents & crew in order to
verify the ships compliance in line with the current SOLAS & IMO requirements
This guide includes the latest changes on the maintenance/service
requirements of Fire Fighting Equipment required by MSC.1/Circ.1432 , which
will come into force on 30th.May.2013 & supersedes MSC.1/Circ. 850
As the requirements & regulations are continuously changing , DNV will update
this guide as necessary.

An abandon ship drill and fire drill shall take place weekly.
The entire crew need NOT be involved in every drill, but
each crew member must participate in a fire & abandon
ship drill each month, as required by SOLAS III/19.
Passengers are encouraged to attend these drills.
On a ship engaged on a voyage where passengers are
scheduled to be on board for more than 24 h, musters of
the passengers shall take place within 24 h after their
embarkation. Passengers shall be instructed in the use of
the lifejackets and the action to take in an emergency.
Whenever new passengers embark, a passenger safety
briefing shall be given immediately before sailing, or
immediately after sailing.
