Garnets Galore
Step 1: Cut the sterling bangle into two unequal
halves, leaving nine rings on half, and seven
rings on the other. Make the cuts as flush as
possible.
Step 4: Place one end of the base in the round nose
pliers and with a firm grip, roll inward to create
a loop. Brace the base wire with your thumb of
the opposite hand while forming the loop to
create a consistent and round shape. Make sure
to bring the loop all the way around until the
end touches the inside of the base wire without
a gap.
Step 1
Step 2: The half with the seven rings will be the base
for the pendant. Keep the flush cutters as close
to the base as possible, and cut away the last
two rings. Take care not to damage the base
while cutting. You should now have 5 rings
attached to the base.
Step 4
Step 5: Repeat Step 4 on the opposite end of the base
wire. Ensure that the loops are the same size,
and that the rings are symmetrically placed
between the two loops.
Step 5
Step 6: Using a 3 length of 22g wire, make a wrapped
loop. Thread a garnet bead onto the wrapped
loop. Repeat three more times.
Step 2
Step 3: Use a metal
file to
smooth the
cut ends of
the base wire
and any
rough areas
where the
rings were
attached.

Step 7: Attach one unit to each of the three center
rings with another wrapped loop.
Step 10: Attach two of these dangles to the last two
rings of the base wire with wrapped loops.
Attach the remaining three dangles to the
lower loops of the bead units in the center 3
rings.
Step 7
Step 8: Attach the fourth garnet to the lower wrapped
loop in the center.
Step 10
Step 11: Cut the sterling chain into two 7 1/2-8
lengths. To one end of the first piece of chain,
Attach a 16g 6mm jump ring, to one end of
the first piece of chain, using chain nose pliers
and flat nose pliers. Use a 16g 4mm jump ring
to connect the other end of the chain to the
left loop of the pendant.
Step 8
Step 9: Thread a garnet bead and a Bali silver spacer to
each of the five headpins.

Step 12: With the other length of chain, use a 16g 4mm
jump ring to connect one end of the chain to
the lobster clasp. Use a 16g 4mm jump ring to
connect the other end of the second length of
chain to the right loop of the pendant.
Optional: To patina, dip the necklace carefully into warm
liver-of-sulfur solution to gently oxidize.
Remove it when the desired depth of color is
achieved, and rinse well. Pat dry, and use propolish pads to clean and bring out the shine.
Tumble for 30 minutes for even more shine!
