It is with a great deal of diffidence that I have cousented to write a short note by way of preface to this
booklet; for a good wine needs no bush. The author of this interesting little volume comes of a wellknown literary family of Tirunelvely and is an earnest and enthusiastic student of Saiva Siddhanata
Philosophy. Those who are already acquainted with his annotated editions of Thiruvarulpayan, Kodikavi,
Pottipahrodai and Vinavenba will not need any invitation to come for further instruction and those who
are not, will very properly and profitably plunge at once into this little book.
The one excuse I have for complying is the deep interest that I take in the exquisite system of
Philosophy known as Saiva Siddhanta in the exposition and propagation of which the Great Saint
Sambandar took a leading part. 'Prejudices die hard', so goes the saying. A canard had been started that
the Great Saint was responsible for the immolation of the Jains on the pikes by King Kunpandia. The
learned author conclusively proves in this little volume that neither the Great Saint nor the Pandian King
was responsible for the retribution that had overtaken them. I wish that the another produces more books
of this kind exploding some of the time-worn religious prejudices.
