Avoidoffensivelanguageandpersonalattacks.Ifyourealizeyouarepartofaflame
war(morethantwoorthreeangrypostingsbackandforthbetweentwopeople),go
offlinetofinishitoff.Don'tmonopolizethelistservwithyourdisagreement.

Beconsciousofyourchoiceoflanguagesometimeswordsthatmightnotsound
hurtfulwhensaidinperson(whentoneofvoiceandgesturecanhelpcommunication)
mightfeeloffensivetosomeonewhentheyarewritten.Sarcasmandsardonichumor
donottranslatewellintowriting.

Avoidgeneralizationsaboutentiregroupsofpeople,includingracial,ethnic,religious,
gender,sexualpreferenceorotherstereotypes.Forexample,lumping"allteachersor
theadministration"(or"allparents")togetherisunfairandinaccurate.

Ifyourmessageisdirectedataspecificperson(andwouldnotbeofinterestto
everyone),replytothatindividualratherthantheentirelistserv.Thisparticularly
appliesifyouhaveaprivateorsensitivecommenttomake.Donotpostpersonal
emailsonapubliclistwithoutfirstobtainingtheauthor'spermission.
