EDITORS NOTE

Lets shape our children

E

VERY WEEK, I receive letters from youngsters who aspire

to be models, artists and entertainers. As much as our role
as members of the media is to empower, educate and

as actuarial science or forensics. But who can blame our children?
We live in a country where there are very few celebrities who place
value on education. You can count a handful of SA celebrities who

young celebs dont hide the fact that they dropped out of college
to pursue careers in acting and singing.

good you look and speak. Its even more worrying that our education system has reduced the pass mark to 30 percent and has
recorded that primary school pupils are struggling with maths and

prefer the world of arts as they see it as a quick way to make money. Popular fashionista, Dion Cheng, once said that there will come
a time when doctors and architects will be celebrities because they

need to be worried about the future of our children.
          "
the government or media, but with parents at home. As a parent,
youre the steward and custodian of your childs future. Perhaps,
the starting point is to buy your child an educational book instead
of a PlayStation.
Explain to them that theres more to life than being a celebrity;
that they must invest their time on something that will sustain
them for life. We have enough models, singers, DJs, dancers and
actors as it is. We need young people who will come with technological inventions and change the future of our country. So, parents
encourage your child to read, explore, invent and achieve. Its
never too late to reverse the trend.
We look forward to a future that will have celebrities who are
scientists, doctors, mining engineers, meteorologists, accountants,
speech therapists, among other profes

record with men. She also makes for a

why men so often become smitten with
her and rush her to the altar.

man and claim his last name.
She made her way up the corporate
ladder through the Mukwevho family
business. Sadly, their romance reached
an untimely end when Edward died.

TRADITIONAL CUSTOMARY
MARRIAGE
After Edwards death, Catherines
       +"
love, Thandaza was heartbroken.
Yet, the Mukwevhos still made their
customary request clear: Thandaza
had to marry again in the family.
      " $
the idea and wanted to just mourn
the passing of her husband until such
time that she felt she had healed, the
royal family persisted in their expectation that she should follow the
traditional command.
Thandaza then married Ndalamo;
Edwards cousin, Alberts son. They
later fell in love but their marriage unfortunately collapsed due to business
rivals who competed for Ndalamos
attention.
At this point, we empathised with
her as we thought that she was the
unwilling victim of circumstances
beyond her control. We also felt that
she was somehow unlucky in matters
of the heart and marriage.
We thought Miss Buthelezi would
take a breather and maybe go on
holiday to regroup or spend more
time with her son, Vusi. But no, she
soon found love again in the arms of
Pheko Mokoena.
THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY
After she fell for Pheko, the writing
was on the wall: Thandaza was keeping it in the family.
] $
Edwards cousin from his mothers
side. But with him, Miss Buthelezi fell
head-over-heels in love.
She loved this man with the type of
passion we had gotten a glimpse of
when she was with Edward.
Pheko was powerful but gentle
at the same time, and he knew just
what to say to make Thandaza weak
at the knees.
But even with Pheko, Thandaza had
to battle it out with another woman
to maintain her position in Phekos
life. The ever-scheming Meme was
not ready to stand aside and let Thandazas walk to the altar with Pheko be
an easyy one.

Will Thandaza
once more prove
that she is a
man-magnet
who can never be
alone for long?

The relationship between Pheko

and Thandaza was never on the
agenda for the Mukwevho family, in
fact, they were bitterly opposed to
it. They were against her bringing a
Mokoena into her life and into their
family business.
Things got too complicated for the
love-struck couple and they went
their separate ways, only for Miss
Buthelezi to hop to another man and,
perhaps not surprisingly, another
Mokoena, Ranthumeng.
THE SETTLEMENT
It soon became quite apparent that
Thandaza was just trying to heal a
broken heart, and that Pheko would
always be the one love of her life that
got away.
Maybe it was because, unlike
Edward and Ndalamo, she had
im.
never made it to the altar with him.
Into this scenario stepped Ranthuumeng Mokoena, and with him in the
d
picture of course Thandaza would
ore
be damned not to grab him before
all the other single ladies could.
The two met in a bookshop and in
ells
a short space of time wedding bells
were ringing loud and clear.
Not again, we all collectively
sighed, but yes, she was moving
o
from being called Mrs Mukwevho
to being Mrs Mokoena.
  < :@
must have been on its toes keep-ing up with her back-and-forth
surname changes.
Perhaps they should consider
g
g her a special

next time she visits.

It could be soon; with Thandaza you
never know. She might just be back
there sooner than we think. After all,
this is the same woman who cheated
on her hubby with Pheko and slept
    ^ $
6
its comebacks. Now Ranthumeng is
gone and Pheko has left again, she is
alone once more.
Will this single status last a little
longer than it has in the past, or will
Thandaza once more prove that she
is a man-magnet who can never be
alone for too long? Only time will tell.
