This lesson plan is for a Philippine literature class focusing on short stories from the regions. Students will analyze a short story called "Esperanza" in terms of its form and theme through both a written analysis and by adapting it into a new creative work using multimedia. To do this, students will view a video on the oppression of women during the Japanese regime, discuss questions about it, analyze parts of the plot structure, take pictures representing aspects of the story, write a critical analysis using elements of the story as a guide, and create a photo essay relating pictures to the theme of nationhood. The lesson was drafted by a teacher from Western Mindanao State University.
