23 - Chapter 6 - Cementing - Part 2

This document provides information and calculations for cementing operations during drilling. It defines the key calculations needed prior to cementing including the volume of slurry required, number of cement sacks, water volume, additive volume, displacement volume, and total job time. Formulas are given for calculating the slurry volume, yield, density, water requirements, and additive requirements per cement sack. An example calculation is worked through for a single-stage cementing operation.

Calculate the total volume of slurry required, no. of cement sacks required,
total volume of water, no of sacks of additive, total weight of additive
required and total time for the job (min).

Solution (Exercise 2)
13

Calculate the total volume of slurry required

VB = 939 ft3
VC = 24.66 ft3
VD = 8.18 ft3
VT = 1166.2 ft3
No. of cement sacks required = 819 sacks
Total volume of water = 5646.889 gal
No of sacks of additive = 33 sacks
Total weight of additive required = 3077 lb
Total time for the job (min) = 169 min
Assume: Mixing rate is 10 sacks/min, 10 min release of plug and
pumping rate is 250 gal/min

to surface with a single stage cementing operation.

Calculate the total volume of slurry required, no. of

cement sacks required, total volume of water, no of
sacks of additive and total weight of additive
required.
