Underside of Beam: Option 1A Option 1B

This document provides two options for addressing the size gap between a concrete masonry unit (CMU) wall and a concrete beam. Option 1A involves using an A-shaped block at the top course of the wall. Option 1B involves cutting out the face shell of the CMU and replacing it after grouting, with the height varying. Both options call for using 1/4 inch thick by 6 inch wide steel plates welded to the beam after CMU placement for shear transfer, and bonding the beam at the second course from the top with through-bolting or lag bolting for additional shear transfer.
