DESCRIPTION:
Then a load is applied to the load cell. The resistance to the excitation
current in the strain gauge changes and the analog output signal varies.
It is amplified and digitalized continuously by the A/D converter into a
digital signal.
Subsequently, the resulting count is processed and managed by the CPU. The
CPU refers to the instructions from the keyboard, and then conveys the output
data to LCD driver which formats the data into a readout for the display.
PAGE:3 1996/05/28/V1POWER SUPPLY SECTION
DESCRIPTION:
1) AC adaptor: This AC adaptor provides about 9-12 ¥ of DC power.
2) Battery : Built-in Rechargeable Battery 6V 44h / 6V 3Ah.
3) How +5V power is generated?
Porer supply circuit provides the power which is approx. 6V.
When it goes through transistors 03 and Q4 which is controlled by UB (Operation-
al amplifier). It is regulated to +5V(+/~ 5%).
4) How -5Y powcr is gencrated?
Wonolithic voltage converter(U6 * IC 7660) is designed to convert +5V power to
bY, provided to A/D unit.
+s IBY, HFY - U13 IC 7660
IC 7660 isn’t existed in EB¥ series

If the scale is set on 4-OFF, When the readout is stable for 4 minutes, CPU will
release a high potential signal from port 1.6 to notify the power supply
unit that shuts off the scale.
Low power detection:
The UB is also designed to detect the power. Whenever the power is less than
§.2¥, It will release a high potential signal to CPU, and then CPU will instruct
LCD display to show LOW-BATTERY symbol .

1996/05/28/V1C. LED DISPLAY CHECKING:
1) Check that it is soldered and connected properly between LCD and driver IC (
uPD7225), driver IC (uPD7225) and CPU.
2
Check if the LCD is broken.
D. CPU CHECKING:
1) Check that all pins are seated properly in the socket
2) Check that the clock is 7.3728 Mllz.
3) Check that the RESET is normally low.
E. A/D UNIT CHECKING:
Check that signals of +5V & -5V are correctly fed to the A/D unit.
2) Check that the output voltage of the load cell is normal.
3) Check waveforms of A/D converter (IC 7135)
¥hen no error is found with above checking points (power supply, platform
stopper, LCD display. CPU. A/D unit), the trouble can be caused on the load cell
or the board. Replace a new one could be better to identify the defective.
In this way, the readout of weight would be varied because of the output voltage
of the load cell and different span values, so re-calibrate is required after
this replacement.

The SCBOC31B/SC80C51B contains a
4K X 8 ROM: a 128 X 8 RAM; 32 1/0
lines; two 16-bit timer/countors; a fiva~
source, two-priorty level, nested inter-

chip oscilator and clock circuits. In addi-
tion, the SC80C31B/80CS1B has two
software selectable modes. of reduced

signed 0 intertace most microprocessors with a wide
variety of alphanumeric LCDs. It can directly drive any
slalicor multiplexed LED containing up to 4 backplanes
and up to 32 segments and is easily cascaded for larger
LCD applications. The 4207225 communicates with a
host microprocessor through an 8-it serial interface. It
includes a 7-segment numeric and a 1é-segment alpha-
numeric segment decoder to reduce system software
requirements. The .PD7225 is manufactured with a low

Detailed Description
General Operation
The ICL7135 is divided into an Analog section and a Digi-
tal section. The digital section includes the counters, in
ut and output interfaces, and contro! logic which con:
ols ihe wming of each measurement cycle. Each mea:
surement is divided into four phases: 1) auto-zero (AZ),
9) signal integrate (INT), 3) ratacanca deintageate (DF)
{and 4) zero integrator (ZI). The digital section controls
the operation of the analog section during each of these
phases, using counters ang tne state ot the comparator
to determine when to start each of the four phases,
Auto-Zero Phase
During auto.zero Input HI and Input LO are disconnected
from the input pins and are internally shorted to Analog
COMMON. The output of the comparator is connected to
the inverting input of the Integrator, and at the same me
the non-inverting put of the integrator is connected 10
the input of tho butter. Thie foodback loop chargos tho
autozero capacitor, Caz, 10 compensate for the offset
voltages of the butfer amplifier, integrator, and compara-
tor. Also dunng auto-zero, the reference capacitor is con:
nected to the voltage reteronce and is charged to the
fotoronce voltage. The auto-zer0 cyclo is a minimum of
9800 clock cycles, except after an over-range reading.
Alter an over-range, the extended zero integrate phase
reduces the auto-zero phase to 3800 clock cycles.
Signal Integrate Phase
AL the end of the auto-zero phase the auto-zero loop is
opened, and the Input Hiyh and Input Low are switched
to the extemal pins IN-HI and IN-LO. The analog section
integrates the differential voltage between Input High
and Input Low, The differential voltage must be within the
ICL7135's common mode range. The voltage on the inte
xylator capacitor at the end of signal integrate is directly
Proportional to the differential voltage between Input
High and Input Low. and is also directly proportional to
the length of the signal integrate phase, The signal inte-
grate phase lasts precisely 10,000 clock cycles. At the
fend of this phase the input signal polarity is determined,
De-Integrate Phase
‘At the end of signal integrate, input High and Input Low
are disconnected fram the external pins. The integrator
on-inverting input pin is then internally connected to An
alog Common and the buffer input is connected to one
Side of the reference capacitor. The other side of tie
reference capacitor is connected to Analog Common,
The polarity at the output of tha intagrator (as detected
by the comparator at the end of signal intagrate phase)
determines which terminal of the reference capacitor is,
connected to the butter input. The reference capacitor
Polarity is chosen so that the integrator output will always
return towards Analog Common. Since the reference ca-
pacitor was charged to the reference voltage during the
auto-zer0 phase, the integrator input voltage is now the
reference voltage. The Us-integrate phase lasts tor
20,001 counts, or until the comparator detects that the
intogrator output hae crossed z0r0, whichever occurs
first. The time required to return to zer0 is proportional to
the input signal and is inversely proportional to the refer-
‘ance voltage. The number of clock cycles required to
return to zero is counted by the digital section and is
latched aa tho measurement rosult.

Zero Integrator Phase
The last of the four phases is the zero integrator phase.
Tho non-inverting input of the intogrator ie intornally
shorted to Analog Common and the buffer input is inter
rally connected to the output of the comparator, This
closes a loop that forces the integrator output to zero,
Normally this phase lasts only 100 to 200 counts, suff-
ient time to remove the small residual charge on the
integrator capacitor caused by the comparator delay and
the one count delay created by sampling the comparator
‘output only once per clock cycle. However, an overrange
condition will exist when the integrator output does not
reluin to zai by thy end Uf Uy De-Integrate phase, and
can leave a residual voltage on the integrator capacitor.
In this case. the Zero Integrator phase is increased to
6200 counts to ensure that the integrator capacitor 1s
fully discharged before the next measurement cycle is
started.

Analog COMMON
‘Analog COMMON is the Analog ground reference for the
ICL7135. If Input Low is al a voltage other than AnalogTEE
