Prime Minister:
Background:
Spain is a Constitutional Monarchy by which the
government follows the Constitution of Spain. Spain was
led by Dictator Francisco Franco from 1939-1975. Upon
his death, Spain reformed by the people in 1978, and
created the Constitutional Court of Spain.
Head of State:
The President of the government, otherwise known as the
prime minister is Mariano Rajoy Brey. He has held this
position since December 21, 2011. His job is to represent
Spain in domestic and foreign policy, military defense,
and economic policies.
Regional Government:
The monarchy of Spain
holds the head of state, with his main job is to appoint
officials, report official activities, and represent Spain at
formal and ceremonial functions. Felipe VI is the current
King of Spain, as well as the commander in chief. Felipe
has help this position since June 19, 2014.

Legislature:
Known as Cortes Generales, is composed of two
chambers. The lower chamber is the Congress of
Deputies (Congreso de los Diputados, and the upper
chamber is the Senate (Senado). The Congress of
Deputies has 350 members who are elected every four
years.
Local Government:
Provinces and Municipalities (Provincias and
Municipios) are two levels of government where the
primary responsibility is to uphold basic law and local
Government. Spain has more than 8,000 municipal
governments, with each having a council, a commission,
and a mayor.
