Course
Description
The course will be an introduction to communication systems, primarily
answering the question of how to transfer information from one point to
another point. After a brief review of Fourier analysis three fundamental
modulation techniques namely amplitude/phase/frequency modulation, will be
covered. Then we will discuss random processes followed by the performance
of above mentioned communication systems in the presence of additive noise.
Simple binary digital modulations schemes will also be discussed. Digital
baseband modulation would be covered with emphasis on sampling and
quantization. In addition, power spectral density, line coding, pulse shaping,
introductory information theory and coding theory will be discussed.
Expected
Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will:
Understand the fundamentals of different modulation schemes and their
performance in the presence of noise.
Learn the use of performance parameters namely, Bandwidth, Power,
Signal to Noise Ratio for analyzing the performance of communication
systems.
