About Varanasi
Varanasi, the holy city of India, is also known by the name of Kashi and Benaras. Kashi, the city
of Moksha for Hindus since centuries, is known for its fine-quality silks and Benares Hindu
University and Avimukta of the ancient days. Varanasi is the most popular pilgrimage point for
the Hindus. It is the oldest city of the world. It is more than 3000 years old and is famous as the
city of temples. The Ganga Ghats (river front) are the most popular pilgrimage spot of
Varanasi and are centers of music and learning. Two worlds come together in Varanasi and
each one spectacular in their own way. The beating heart of Hindu culture, pilgrims believe
that the city offers moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death). And then there are
overtures of modernity in activities such as the evening arti which is a spectacle on grand
scale.

Banaras Hindu University is only a university in India which has 2 campus, 3 Institutes, 16
faculties, 140 departments, 4 advanced department and 4 interdisciplinary schools. This
is Temple of Learning. BHU is one of the largest residential universities in Asia, with over 20,000
students The University comprises all castes, creeds, religions and genders, and is on the list of
Institutes of National Importance
Debate Competition
It holds a lot of importance to participate in a debate competition. Debate provides the
potential for independent vigorous free thought and dialogue. Debate cannot easily be
policed or controlled, and its process requires active thinking. Debating inherently involves a
number of essential processes. It is easy to see how these processes add extra dimensions to
the learning situation. Debate calls to task simplistic public dialogue and foments a kind of
global critical thinking. Thinking on their feet, debaters are required to hear an idea and then
provide a response. This pressure-laden scenario enhances the educational outcomes and
spontaneity of debates. The benefits they accrue as a result of all the hard work put by
debater in it is numerous.

ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to all students studying in any of the recognized university across the
country.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
A team will comprise of 2 debater compulsorily. One speaking for and other speaking
against the motion.
Both Hindi and English languages are allowed (One team must choose one language).
University is required to send only one team each for respective languages.
All speakers in the debate will have 5 minutes to deliver their speech.
At 4 minutes a bell will ring after which, the speaker will have to conclude in next 1
minute. Marks will be deducted if continued speaking after 5 minutes.
At this point the debate will be open to questions from the floor speakers.
Speaker is questioned as soon as he concludes his constructive speech.
In the questioning period, the questioner may ask any fair, clear question that has a
direct bearing on the debate.
A speaker may receive no help from anyone during the time he/she is speaking.
Any gains made outside of the established procedure are disallowed.
The speaker will be judged on the basis his/her delivery of speech, reasoning,
confidence etc.
Prizes
The winning trophy along with the certificate will be given to the Winner in each
category.
Each participant will be given certificate of participation.
REGISTRATION
Valid id proof is required for registration in the competition.
The team has to give their name of the participants along with the registration fees.
The registration charges are applicable per team.
Registration Charges:
Without accommodation - 1000/-.
With accommodation- 2000/-.
The payment can be done either through online payment or through cash. (Details and
deadline of payment will be given once we get the details of the team/s).

ACCOMODATION
Accommodation will be provided from evening of 2nd of February till4th of February.
Accommodation will not be provided before or after that period.
