Course Title: Afro-Asian Literature
Course Credit: 3 units
Course Description:
This course allows students to explore literary selections from Afro-Asian
countries. It provides a study of representative literary works by early and
contemporary African and Asian writers. Focus is given on representative literatures
of India, China, Japan and Africa.
Course Objectives:
At the end of the semester, the students should be able to:
A. Cognitive (Knowledge):
1. Describe selected African and Asian writers.
2. Explain the elements of particular literary forms.
3. Describe the culture of selected groups of Africans and Asians based on
their literature.
4. Identify and discuss the human situation depicted in the various piece of
literature.
5. Relate the depicted human experiences with their own or heard
experiences.
B. Affective (Attitude):
1. Show appreciation of the writings of great Africans and Asians.
2. React to literature in various ways.
3. Reflect on the theme of the various pieces of literature.
C. Psychomotor (Skills):
1. Read clearly selected prose and poetry.
2. Write summary, reaction paper, and paraphrase of required literary
selections.
3. Come up with creative visual representations for different literary
selections through a movie poster, scrapbook, diorama, literary map, and
biographical montage/collage.
